Wenshan Travel Guide

Tourist Guide
Wenshan
A large zoo and a university are among the modern attractions that complement the traditional teahouses and temples in this eclectic district.

Tropical vegetation decorates the mountains surrounding the district of Wenshan, in the southern suburbs of Taipei. Escape the hubbub of the city center in this serene and picturesque setting.

Bring your family to see Yuan Zai, the first panda born in Taiwan, in the Taipei Zoo. During your visit, stop at the Penguin House and the Amphibian and Reptile House, before inspecting the creatures in the Insectarium. About a mile south of the zoo is National Chengchi University. Get closer to the city’s best young minds at this campus, which has more than 16,000 students.

Understand the traditional side of this southern suburb, with a trip to the Chih Nan Temple, which stands on the slopes of a scenic green hill. Ride the Maokong Gondola up to this majestic Taoist structure and appreciate the spectacular views of the rest of the district.

Back on the ground, admire the gold-leaf archway of the Taiwan Police College, a school providing training to officers in the province.

In good weather, explore the various parks dotted around Wenshan, which offers a quieter alternative to central Taipei. Bring food and drink for a picnic beside the lake in Xinglong Park, where you can explore a labyrinth of walking paths that meander between willow trees.

The district stretches south from the southern part of Taipei, between the Xindian District and the Shenkeng District. Ride the Wenhu Line or the Songshan-Xindian Line of the metro toward their southern terminuses to reach this zone.

Consider exploring the neighboring areas for other gems such as the Museum of Drinking Water, the Daan Forest Park and Tungnan University.
