About this property

Entire place

A romantic retreat for two, nestled in a historic medieval village.

Lavenham is well-known as a village steeped in history, with roots in the medieval era and some stunning architecture to boot. Hylton Cottage is part of this glorious heritage, with its distinctive Tudor-style frontage. Inside, the cottage is well presented, with a range of comfortable furniture and fittings to make two guests feel right at home.

The semi-detached property includes all the comforts you might expect, including a sumptuous sofa in the living room to plunge into and relax after a day exploring the local sights. The bespoke kitchen is well-equipped and comes with little extra such as a food mixer and coffee maker. The master bedroom has been tastefully decorated, while still retaining the elegant timber framework.

Outside, the property benefits from a tranquil, enclosed garden with a table and chairs, the perfect spot to enjoy a morning coffee. In the summer months, you can also take advantage of a garden studio to relax in and enjoy the long evenings.

Attractions and nearby amenities
With its half-timbered cottages, fine local pubs and variety of independent shops, Lavenham is a tourist destination in itself. The Guildhall is one of the best-preserved timber framed buildings in the UK. The De Vere House is worth hunting down as well – you might recognise it from the Harry Potter franchise!
The magnificent Suffolk coast is just a short drive from Hylton Cottage. Aldeburgh and Southwold are two jewels in the crown of this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Aldeburgh is the place to come for arts festivals and musical heritage, while Southwold is famous for its beach huts and pier.
On the border with Essex is Long Melford, a picturesque village with the longest high street in England. You can stroll all 2.5 miles of it and take in the sights. Or head over to Melford Hall, a large Elizabethan house where Beatrix Potter often came to stay.
Like Melford Hall, Ickworth House is a National Trust property. Set in the midst of a large deer park, this Italianate Palace is topped with a distinctive rotunda and also houses some very special works of art, including paintings by Gainsborough, Titian and Velazquez.
Sudbury is a market town that is surrounded by water meadows and picturesque hills. The town is situated on the River Stour, one of the artist Constable’s most favourite subjects. For the best way to experience the beauties of the river, you can hire a River Stour Trust boat.
Baylham House Rare Breeds Farm is home to livestock that was once common across Suffolk but is now fast disappearing. You can feed the animals, or just enjoy a light lunch yourself in the café.
If you’d like to stroll through some typical Suffolk countryside, Clare Castle Country Park is situated on the banks of the River Stour. You’ll find the remains of a 13th century stone castle here, as well as a café and plenty of sites for a picnic.

Lavenham weekend treat
This was a real treat staying in this charming cottage. There were nice touches, with a hamper and essentials in the fridge, that made such a lovely welcome. The cottage has been very thoughtfully set-up by the owners including a lovely garden. Thank you.
