Search St. Augustine hotels

The best area to stay in St Augustine is generally close to the St Augustine Campus of The University of the West Indies, particularly along the Eastern Main Road or in the Valsayn area.

The area around the university campus on the Eastern Main Road is the most practical choice for many visitors. This main thoroughfare connects St Augustine to other parts of Trinidad and Tobago, making it convenient for getting around. You'll find a range of shops, eateries, and services here, suiting the university community and locals alike. It's a busy, active area during the day.

For visitors attending events or needing regular access to the university, staying within walking distance or a short drive of the campus is ideal. This allows for easy commutes without worrying about traffic.

Couples looking for a slightly more residential and nice experience might consider Valsayn, a neighbourhood just north of the university. Valsayn offers a quieter setting with larger properties and more green spaces. It's still very close to the university and the Eastern Main Road but provides a more relaxed atmosphere.

The best time to go to St Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago, is during the dry season, which runs from December to May.

During these months, you'll experience consistently warm and sunny weather with lower humidity and very little rain. This makes it ideal for exploring the university campus, local markets, and nearby natural attractions without the interruption of daily showers. The pleasant climate also means outdoor activities are more enjoyable, whether you're visiting the campus gardens or taking a short drive to the coast.

For those planning to attend university events or academic conferences, the dry season often coincides with many of these activities, ensuring comfortable conditions for moving between venues and socialising outdoors. It's also a good time for general sightseeing around the Tunapuna-Piarco region.

While the wet season (June to November) can bring lush greenery and fewer crowds, the frequent heavy rainfall and higher humidity might disrupt outdoor plans.
