  • Day 1 of my road trip across the USA brought me to my favorite city in Florida, St. Augustine; the oldest city in the country, and easily one of the most beautiful. 👇🏽 I snapped this shot at Fort Mose Historic State Park. This incredible site is a U.S. National Historic Landmark, and the rich history of this place is something that every school should be teaching our youth. 👇🏽 Hidden away in the marshes of St. Augustine is one of the most important sites in American history: the first free community of ex-slaves, founded in 1738 and called Gracia Real de Santa Teresa de Mose or Fort Mose (pronounced Moh-Say). Fort Mose played an extremely important role in the development of colonial North America. 👇🏽 As early as 1687, the Spanish government had begun to offer asylum to slaves who managed to escape from British colonies (the first Underground Railroad ran SOUTH to Florida from the colonies!). In 1693, the Spanish Crown officially proclaimed that runaways would find freedom in Florida, in return for converting to Catholicism and a term for men of four years' military service to the Crown. In effect, Spain created a maroon settlement in Florida as a front-line defense against English attacks from the north. Spain also intended to destabilize the plantation economy of the British colonies by creating a free black community to attract slaves seeking escape and refuge from British slavery. 👇🏽 Fort Mose was the first free African settlement legally sanctioned in what would become the United States and had a total population of about 100. The village had a wall around it, with dwellings inside, plus a church and an earthen fort. 👇🏽 The history of Fort Mose is far deeper, and far more interesting then I can convey on @Instagram so please do your own reading on it and learn more about the very earliest history of what is now the United States.

Could of stayed longer

Quick overnight trip for a wedding. Nice house. Roomy and good layout. Lots of indoor and outdoor space. Quiet neighborhood and close to historic downtown St. Augustine.

Short Spring Break Get Away

Property is well maintained. Nice size house for our family of 4. Quick access to beach, downtown, grocery store etc. We make it to St. Augustine almost every year and would definitely stay here again.

Nice place

Cute house with modern decor. Enjoyed our brief stay, wish we had more time. The kids loved the gaming table and putting green outside. Location is a convenient 5 minute drive to downtown.

Beautiful house

Wonderful Stay

Our stay here was very pleasant. There is plenty of room for eight guests. The amenities were well supplied, and the house from top to bottom was very clean. The location is pretty good, too. Drive 10 minutes one direction, and you're at the beach. Drive 10 minutes at the direction, and you're in the main shopping district by the Castillo shopping district you're at.

Great location, close to Night of Lights. spacious, great communication with property manager, suggest adding foam overlay (in closet) in master bedroom bed to make the bed more comfortable. Overall, cute house with added touches for guests.

Winter getaway

Such a great place to stay with your family. Our check in process was easy and quick, the host was in communication available throughout the stay. The main St. Augustine attractions were about 5-7 min away depending on traffic. There is a great Mexican and to a restaurant literally 2 minutes walking with reasonable prices. Across the street is a Walgreens and CVS with a windixie 5 minutes down the road. The house had everything we needed the host definitely has visitors interest in mind, the layout allowed us to have or relax while the kiddos went to bed. I did multiple trips to the zoo and local attractions with ease . I would definitely stay here again

Wonderful St. Augustine Trip

Visited St. Augustine to check out the Christmas lights. The house is in a quiet neighborhood with some nice local places to eat. It was a very busy holiday weekend to visit so we were worried about the crowds and traffic. We wanted to stay close to the fun but not right in the middle of all of it. This house was perfectly located and close enough that we were able to stop back and take a rest before going out again for dinner. Check in was fast and easy, plenty of towels and blankets, bed was comfortable, and the house was nice and clean. I would highly recommend for anyone visiting the St. Augustine area. Thank you again for taking such great care of us!

St Augustine Getaway

It was a nice home, especially the master bedroom is tastefully decorated. The kitchen is well stocked with enough utensils. The game room is an added bonus to keep the kids entertained. The house is in proximity to the old town. We had an issue with the light/fan remote not working in the game room, and Tomasso was very responsive and had someone replace the batteries that same day. The AC seemed to be a bit weak the first night we were there but it was taken care of the next day once I made Tomasso aware of it and it wasn’t an issue after that. Overall we had a wonderful stay!

Great place to stay that’s is close enough to both the historic district and the beach. The house comfortably accommodated six people, and the neighborhood was relatively quiet. There was also a great local coffee shop (Dos) and a deli (Drake’s) that were within walking distance, which was a nice surprise. Would not hesitate to book again if we are looking to stay in the Saint Augustine area.

My family and I stayed here for a quick visit. We really enjoyed our stay. The house had enough room for six of us. It was very clean. It is really close to downtown St Augustine. I would highly recommend it.
