Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Soto De Sajambre?
The best area to stay in Soto De Sajambre is within the village itself, or the nearby villages of Oseja de Sajambre or Ponga, to experience the heart of the Picos de Europa National Park.

Soto De Sajambre is a small, traditional mountain village located deep within the Picos de Europa. It's characterised by stone houses, narrow lanes, and stunning views of the surrounding peaks, particularly the Peña Santa de Castilla. The village is quiet and offers a true escape into nature, with the main activity being exploring the natural environment.

For couples seeking a tranquil and nature-focused retreat, staying in Soto De Sajambre is ideal. You'll find a few guesthouses and rural accommodations that offer a peaceful base for hiking and enjoying the mountain scenery. The focus here is on relaxation and connecting with the natural beauty of the park.

Families with older children who enjoy outdoor activities will also find this area very suitable. There are numerous walking trails directly accessible from the village, ranging from gentle strolls to more challenging hikes.
When is the best time to go to Soto De Sajambre?
The best time to visit Soto De Sajambre is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months, when the weather is pleasant for outdoor activities and the natural scenery is at its most striking.

During spring, the Picos de Europa National Park, which Soto De Sajambre is part of, comes alive with wildflowers and lush greenery. The temperatures are mild, making it ideal for hiking and exploring the numerous trails around the village. Many visitors find the fresh air and blooming landscapes particularly appealing for a refreshing escape.

Autumn offers equally good conditions, with comfortable temperatures and the added beauty of changing leaf colours across the valleys and mountainsides. This season is great for those who enjoy photography or simply appreciate the dramatic natural displays. The local wildlife is also more active during these shoulder seasons, providing opportunities for observation.

For those planning a longer stay focused on extensive outdoor pursuits, avoiding the peak summer months (July and August) can lead to a more relaxed experience, as the trails and local attractions are less crowded.
