Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Sitacocha?
The best area to stay in Sitacocha is within the town centre itself, particularly around the Plaza de Armas.

This central area is the heart of Sitacocha, offering easy access to the town's main church, local market, and a selection of eateries. The streets directly surrounding the Plaza de Armas are where you'll find the most convenient accommodation options, often in charming guesthouses. It's a compact and easily walkable area.

For travellers looking for a genuine local experience and convenience, staying near the Plaza de Armas is ideal. You'll be within steps of local life, including the daily market where you can find fresh produce and handicrafts. It also serves as a good base for any local tours or transport connections.

For those seeking a more rural and quiet retreat, there are a few haciendas and guesthouses located just outside the main town, often a short drive away.
When is the best time to go to Sitacocha?
The best time to go to Sitacocha is during the dry season, which runs from May to October.

During these months, you'll experience consistently sunny days and cooler temperatures, making it ideal for exploring the area's natural beauty and archaeological sites. The clear skies offer excellent visibility for enjoying the stunning mountain vistas. This period is particularly good for outdoor activities such as hiking and birdwatching.

For travellers planning to visit the nearby Kuntur Wasi archaeological site or explore the local agricultural landscapes, the dry season ensures comfortable conditions without the interruption of heavy rains.
