Marina Barrage to Peranakan Museum

Marina Barrage

Open for the people in the year 2008 the Marina Barrage is Singapore’s 15th reservoir. It is less of a tourist destination but more of a rescue area. It is capable of water storage and flood control. The place not only serves as a water storage plant but is also considered to be the perfect place for an outing if you are travelling with your family. It is quite ironic that in Singapore something like a dam can become a tourist destination.

The water in the Reservoir is mostly calm all throughout the year. This makes it the ideal place for a swim or a boat race. If you are not into water sports then you can head to the rooftop of the barrage and indulge into some kite flying or spend some peaceful moments with your family while gazing at the plush green landscape.

The Marina barrage is also an example of Singapore’s rapid adaption of greener alternatives. There is a solar park at the base of this barrage that has 400 solar panels installed that supply continuous power that is required to light the entire barrage during the day. From the Marina barrage bridge you get to see amazing twinkling of stars at night. The best part about Marina Barrage is that it serves as an ideal place for all kinds of recreational activities – thanks to a constant level of water that is maintained irrespective of the tides.

Singapore has a good network of roads and is very well connected. This makes traveling completely hassle free and convenient. If you are looking forward to visit places then I recommend you to travel by bus as not only will it save you some money but also time. It houses some of the most antique collections of handmade artefacts and items. It also shows that how the newer generation of Peranakans have evolved with the new culture. The museum is a mix of Malay, Chinese and Indian elements existing under one roof. It also show cases the Peranakan wedding ceremonies that are held for around 12 days.
