  • The California Condor was a common sight along the Columbia River in Lewis and Clark's day. By the early 1980's, there were only twenty-two left on the face of the planet, all in California. Today, thanks to a massive effort to re-populate the species via in-captivity pairing, there are some two-hundred members. But their recovery is far from assured. The Oregon Zoo has undertaken its own recovery effort whose ultimate goal is the re-introduction of the species into the protected wilderness area around the Columbia River Gorge. In short, to bring them home. For now, they live out their days in a vast, outdoor aviary designed specifically to mimic their habitat in the wild. If you have never seen one up close before, I urge you to come take a look. They are larger than any flying bird you will ever see, unless you go to Peru. And though black and white practically from head to toe, their plumage shines and reflects the light like dark, polished metal. If that doesn't suit your fancy, I will tell you that, as with all big birds, if you wait around long enough, they will do something so awe-inspiring that it will take your breath away, and something so goofy that you will laugh out loud. This place was amazing, comfortable, clean and cozy, the owner Mark and Lisa provide the house every thing that the guest need, they were so nice, and I enjoyed my stay so much, If I came to Oregon again I will stay in this lovely house.

Awesome place and host!

Met Mark on day one and he persuaded showed us the casita. Great layout inside with plenty of amenities . The porch outside had a great view and even got to see Mt. Hood on a clear day 70 miles away. We will return on next trip and know we will enjoy ourselves again.

Beautiful place to stay!

This property, which is an apartment above a workshop, separate from the main house, was beautiful inside and out! Exceptionally clean, modern, and cozy. The views of the valley and Mt. Hood are exceptional. It was cold while we visited and the two "split" units kept us nice and warm. Every type of kitchen and bathroom supply is provided. For us, it was perfectly located to the family we visit in the area. We will absolutely return to this home!

Simply the Best!

Wine Country Casita is fabulous! Every amenity you need or want is provided and the hosts were so welcoming and friendly. The property is super clean, spacious for the two of us and convenient as a home base for travel in all directions. My absolute favorite thing was waking up each morning to a beautiful sunrise over Mt. Hood to the east. Breathtaking! Rated a 10 out of 10 in our book!

Cool digs during hot days.

We had a great stay during 4 days of near 100 degree weather. Air conditioning worked well and nights cooled down nicely. The casita is in great condition and we enjoyed the view from the porch in the morning and evening. We certainly will consider staying here during our next visit and are considering staying for longer periods.
