The ocean view from the rooms is amazing ! We loved our stay so much. The staff really made my husband's birthday weekend special. Will definitely be going back!
Spectacular ocean-side rooms in Shelter Cove, what more could you want? I loved the coffee shop located on-site, and the views are simply spectacular. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I felt right at home.

The view of the Pacific steals the show.
The person at the hotel reception was incredibly friendly, polite, and courteous.
The pizza restaurant is excellent.
It is a difficult drive, as the road is winding and at a high elevation, but once you arrive, you can enjoy the view and the dark-sand beaches.
The view was spectacular, I spent one night at this lovely hotel and had a great day checking out the beaches nearby. The staff is friendly, the beds comfortable, and shelter cove was unforgettable. Highly recommend staying here :)
The staff was great, and the view from our room and balcony were fantastic. Very nice sauna and ocean view spa tub.
The hotel itself needs some maintenance and upgrades. The handle on the sliding glass door was broken and the door itself didn’t slide - it required force to open and close. Neither of the showerheads on the (probably once fancy) dual showerhead shower/bathtub combination worked properly.
Also, the walls are embarrassingly thin. I learned things about the proclivities of my hotel “neighbors” I could have done without knowing. Our sleep was negatively affected by the people who stayed up late and the others who got up early with most noise we shouldn’t have been able to hear: the opening of luggage, ice going into a glass, etc. We woke up early and exhausted.
Two of the three walking distance restaurants offered one star food at five star prices - one of them taking an hour and ten minutes to serve us fatty chicken thighs and cold sides, the other dishing up undercooked sausage patties and “quiche” that was lower quality than frozen grocery store fare. The best thing we had was cheesy garlic sticks from the pizza place, which we got after our disappointing dinner.
Come for the friendly staff, in-room spa and beautiful view - but bring your own food, and earplugs.
Simy and his staff were just perfect from the time we checked in until we checked out 6 days later.
No words are available to describe the beauty of Shelter Cove, CA.
We had two days of sunshine while the last 4 days were cloudy, but that did not matter. Shelter Cove and The Inn at Lost Coast was heaven on earth.
With our window open every night, we were able to hear the majestic Pacific Ocean from our room.
We celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary during this stay and was treated to a complimentary bottle of bubbly from the staff.
Highly recommend The Inn at Lost Coast and the village of Shelter Cove.

We stayed at the Inn of the lost coast for three nights June 20-23 2026. It was spectacular. We had magnificent ocean views where we watched whales & sea lions from our room.
The best was watching the sunset from our patio with some wine. The Inn is very quiet and the beds were super comfortable.
The room was well maintained and very clean with a fireplace!
Erin and the staff were super nice and helpful with any questions we had.
They have a restaurant for breakfast and lunch with gorgeous Ocean views. They also have a pizza shop on site, it was delicious!
Close by was a must see Black Sands Beach. Cape Mendocino lighthouse is within walking distance where we collected sea shells down the path to the beach.
There were many options for breakfast, lunch and dinner all within walking distance. We rented 2 E bikes to explore the cove, it was a fun way for some sightseeing.
We hope that we can come back someday for a longer stay. We miss it already.

The location is spectacular. It's a perfect place to get away from it all. We were in an older room in the smaller building. The room is run down and in need of updating. I suspect we were there because we brought dogs. So as long as you get the right room this is a great hotel in a spectacular location.
Great view of the shore and ocean, very close to some of the few eateries in town -- two are attached to the same building as the Inn and the other is across the street. Kind and pleasant staff. We would definitely stay here again and for a few nights rather than just the one.
The room was incredibly clean and immediately gave a comfy home vibe, as if I'd always lived there. The staff were kind and friendly, and the community in Shelter Cove overall were a treat to interact with.
The Inn is right on the coast, so your backyard is basically a glorious view of the ocean and local wildlife via birds.
The pizza place attached to the inn was pretty good, and though I didn't try the Bistro food, the staff helped me find the person I needed to check out with.
It was overall, a 10/10 experience for me.
