Oak Creek Retreat - Cozy Cabin by the River. Fish Hike Swim Pets OK
A Cabin that is steps to the river with Mountain Views and a back entrance into the most popular West Fork Trail in Sedona, AZ on the Oak Creek River. 20min to Flagstaff and 10 min to Slide Rock we are in the most perfect and sought after location. If you don't want to be stuck in the traffic of Sedona and get away from it all then consider making this amazing place, your next Arizona vacation.
This 3B/2B Cabin was built in a very special area to this red rock region which is secluded just outside the main congested city of Sedona. This is the area everyone comes to see and visit while they hike and fish and this cabin is perched 150yds above the river in the middle of it all. The amount of time you will save not having to drive while you circle the area for hours looking for a legal parking spots is priceless, especially when on vacation. Behind our two level cabin is the National Forest that provides all the privacy you need to relax and enjoy pitch black nights that smell of pine needles and wood burning stoves. With this seclusion does come some draw backs and that is snowing weather with rapid melts that swell the river and can at times, make our small private road that crosses over the river difficult. * Read below for all the details. 95% of the year there is no issues with accessing the cabin.
Comfortably sleeps 7 (4 adults/3 kids) Three bedrooms...Master King and bath with shower, 2nd queen bed and 3rd upstairs kids bedroom bunk bed with pullout trundle bed. 2nd bathroom on top level has a larger shower with a larger full size stack-able washer dryer. Large open living room with amazing canyon views and extra large balcony for outdoor eating, BBQ, lounging and sitting around the safe propane fireplace (no wood fires permitted due to fire hazards within the cabin) Indoor fireplaces are not to be used due to fire hazard as well. 3 cars max with three parking spots up on our parking pad. There is no parking anywhere else as you will block the road or our neighbors parking. The driveway is steep and can be a problem in the winter, not allowing you to park in the designated parking area. If there is snow or ice on Shady LN we require you to have real 4x4 This is a cabin tucked in a canyon with only a few other homes close by so we ask all guests to be mindful the road and parking.
There is a small country store down the road with a coffee shop and limited amenities. Although we have satellite internet (Starlink) which works great for internet browsing and emails it is not consistent enough to stream Netflix and other apps on a consistent basis. We have a large DVD collection and Direct TV DVR. We as owners enjoy the fact we have limited internet and can really unplug from the rest of the world and take a true vacation. Verizon and other major carriers have decent LTE coverage out on the front part of the cabin.
Weather issues explained in more detail: There is a dry river crossing and short dirt road with a steep driveway access to the cabin for 95% of the yr that even a sports car can easily use but winter months can make access difficult. Let me repeat this may only happen a couple times a yr during extreme winter snows and flooding, this does not happen very often but when it does you need to understand this information below. The worst time is simply snow (3" or more) a few times in the winter which most 4x4's can handle with off road style tires but the real problem is if the driveway freezes and gets icy not allowing you to get up to the parking area. Then after the snow stops and is followed by warm weather or rain it can cause the river to flood. Best thing to do is book your stay around those winter months then reach out to us and we will advise you best we can if snow and floods are going to be a possible issue. Up to date weather info is only available 2 weeks out and not super accurate till days before. If weather prevents your stay we will refund you according to our refund policies. Two other things that can cause issues is if the state closes the main highway but, that is usually only during extreme weather and if they haven't plowed the road yet or second if the weather has been sever leading up to your reservation we still need time to get our cleaners in to clean after bad storms and it has been keeping them out. We will try our best to alert you of stormy weather but we cannot guarantee it. If it overflows or the road is closed while you are at the cabin you will not be able to drive out but there is always walking access out through West Fork parking/entrance by using a 1 mile long trail that is accessed at the end of shady lane via trail head which that has a very high bridge over the river. That trail might be muddy or snowy so I don't recommend it for elderly or small kids, but it is there and you can get out to the main highway. When I personally stay there and I feel like there is a chance that the river will rise on me I will sometimes park a vehicle at the West Fork Parking and leave a note for the rangers telling them not to tow and why I am parked there with my phone number. So I can walk out and have a vehicle. We will do everything we can to keep house open and available during those times.
Finally there is a septic tank so you must be conscious not to flush anything other than waste and septic safe toilet paper. Most cabins in this area have self contained sewer so we are one of a few that has the convenience an actual septic tank. With all that said this is a special place despite it possible difficulties in the winter. You can fish along the river with a fishing license (rangers patrol and write large tickets if you don't have a lic) we just ask to be mindful of our neighbors, their private property and not to over fish the small creek. We practice catch and release with the browns and brook trout and when we want to keep fish we catch at Sedona Rainbow Trout Farm a few miles down the road. Very easy for everyone and guaranteed to catch trout for $. In late summer there are wild blackberries and crab apple trees which you can pick right around the house and all along the river. Pretty amazing to catch your dinner, pick fruit for desert pies and drink spring water collected only a few miles north.
Max 3 cars. Two cars is more do able but there is room for 3 if need be. There is no parking for any additional cars.
There is a grill there to use although it did take some damage in the last storm it does still work (until we get it replaced soon). Propane is not provided but extra tanks are available at the cabin and sometimes may be full, but refills are the responsibility of the guest and can be done at the Home Depot in Flagstaff or any gas stations that offer it.
Trash Cans must be strapped closed and there is an additional cleaning fee if renters negligence allows wildlife to shred open the trash and make a mess. it will happen trust me even if you leave open one night. The raccoons don't miss a meal...ever. Also, if you take out the large bean bag please put it back in its spot in bunkbed room. It’s too large to leave out and our cleaner is a small 100lb woman who has a very hard time moving it around.
**Please note that we do have security cameras located outside at the property.

The cabin is just what we needed for a great getaway with the family! Lovely views and great access to the river and trails (West Fork Trail park entry is a few feet down the highway). The houses' amenities were great and well thought out.
We enjoyed our stay with our family and fantastic access to the trail. The house is super cozy, with comfortable beds and everything you need to have a wonderful time in Oak Creek.
Great cabin located minutes to west fork trail. Very clean and exactly as pictured. We had a good time and wasnt far from heart of Sedona. Great place for friends and family.
Lucky to see the property in snow! Plenty of room in the house for a family to spread out. Just a few minutes walk from the Call of the Canyon trailhead and you don’t have to worry about parking! Great access to the creek for fishing. The house is a great place to unwind peacefully away from the crowds in Sedona.
what a great hide away nestled in the bottom of the canyon. the view and front porch chairs are theraputic after a busy day in sedona or flagstaff. awesome place!
Great home with plenty of space for a family of 6 to 10. In the middle of Flagstaff and Sedona but closer to Sedona. Secluded enough for plenty of privacy and peace. Great place to visit.
Location was great! Outside could use a little work. Decks and steps felt a little unsafe and definitely in need of some attention. We had everything we needed and very cozy inside. Loved the wildlife around the area.
This was a perfect location between Flagstaff and Sedona. Quiet at night, birds and other wildlife in the morning. Oak Creek and West Fork just a walk away. We did everything we could in the region - Grand Canyon, Snowbowl @Sunset, Schnebly Hill, Broken Arrow, but you could also just stay here for a week and enjoy the peace that this place offers.
The location was absolutely perfect for us. Gorgeous, peaceful, just what we needed. We were able to work from there using the satellite internet and still make a getaway with our family. The proximity to the things we wanted to do made this a place we will likely come again in the future. The host was helpful and accommodating in letting us add a small dog on to our stay right before our stay as well.
We stayed 4 nights and had the best time. The cabin is cute and decorated nicely. The place was very clean and had a well-equipped kitchen. It has window ACs which were not on when we arrived, so it took almost 12 hours for the place to cool down, but we were there during the hottest part of summer. The views out the front and back of the property are awesome! We walked to the creek and West Fork trail. We would definitely stay again.
We loved our stay. This home is lovely inside, clean, warm, and cozy. Our kids loved it here, and enjoyed the creek. It was a mini adventure coming down the driveway! The creek gently flows over the passage to the property, very cool! Great location away from the bussiness of Sedona, but close enough to go to town for fun.
Even has a heated toilet seat!!
If you are looking to enjoy Sedona camping without the hassle of tent camping or renting an RV or finding a place to park. Finding a house cabin is ideal. This property gave all our home had. Surrounded by the woods. The location allowed us to drive to the city. And-or venture out to hike, fish and water play. We loved it.
This is actually the second time we’ve stayed at this property. It’s still perfect! It ’s walking distance to the West Fork trail which is a huge plus, no need to deal with the parking lot that fills up almost as soon as they open! It’s a quiet peaceful neighborhood with lots of animals, we even saw deer in the yard this time! The home is clean and well stocked. I’m sure we will be back yet again!
The property was in great condition. The beds were very comfortable and cozy. The WiFi password was not listed correctly, and the host did not return our call when we checked in. We had some trouble with the light switches, but overall, we had a very nice stay and were able to walk over to the West Fork Trail
Appliances are in great shape. Master bed was comfortable. It was nice that shampoo, conditioner and body wash were stocked in bathrooms. Couches and carpet were a bit worn, but everything else was in good shape. Having never been to Sedona and entering the drive at night with all of the private property signage made us think we may have entered the incorrect property, but it was correct! We even had Blue Apron deliver a Thanksgiving meal and the FedEx driver found it! Overall, it was a great stay! 15 minutes north of Sedona. Driveway was a bit tricky, but we managed. Our kids enjoyed all piling into the bunk room.
Comfortable space for family getaway. Party of 5, grandparents, parents and child. Easy check in/out. Informed of steep driveway, but it was a challenge, scraping at top landing when everyone was in the car. So we learned to load and unload down on the road. There were loose boards on the deck near the front door, and we had an active 8 yr old with us. We had many other places to hang out. Great kitchen. The photos were similar to what we experienced, but not current state. Wobbly dining chairs, but comfortable, cozy bedrooms and living room. Great setting next to West Fork.
Clean Spacious Comfort in Beautiful Oak Creek Canyon
I am a native Arizonan who has always admired the beauty and serenity of Oak Creek Canyon and scenic State Route 89A. I've only ever driven through, and have never stayed along the route. There were five in our group, my two adult children, my wife and me, and my mother-in-law. Plus, we had our miniature dachshund, Sammy. This property was spacious with a modern updated kitchen and bathrooms, while at the same time it didn't lose its rustic flare. Despite the size it truly felt like a "cozy cabin." It was well off the highway amongst beautiful green trees and ground cover in the heart of the canyon. This was exactly what we were looking for in our effort to enjoy Oak Creek and Sedona. We were thrilled that it was pet friendly, and very clean and well kept at the same time. I can only assume the property manager was accessible and accommodating. However, we wanted for nothing our entire stay. Everything was well stocked and equipped. There was no need for us to reach out. Would go back in a heart beat. Definitely thinking about returning next year if not before. One of the most comfortable and relaxing trips we've had in a long time.
