"We had wonderful time! "

"I stayed at Hotel Atitlán, and honestly, it was just gorgeous. The views of the three volcanoes were absolutely breathtaking, and the gardens felt like this magical, winding maze. My room had this antique charm, and from the balcony, we could see the whole garden—it was so peaceful. The pool was lovely, and one of the highlights was a private boat tour we arranged. We visited islands where we learned about coffee, honey, and chocolate—so fascinating. Then we went to another island for zip-lining, with an incredible view at the top. We also took a canoe out on the lake, which was really calming. The breakfast buffet was amazing—so many options, and everything tasted fresh. The staff was nice, but I didn’t feel like they were quite as attentive as at the first hotel. They were still responsive, especially through WhatsApp, but when we had an issue with the shower water turning brown after a rain, they didn’t come right away. They just told us to run the water, but didn’t really explain what was happening. My friend did shower, but by the time the staff checked, the water was already clear. Even with that hiccup, the natural beauty and unique experiences made it unforgettable, and I’d still come back just for the scenery."

"Beautiful authentically guatemalan property offering great views of the Volcanoes and Lake Atitlan. No direct access to the lake but quick drive or walk to the Pana docks where you can catch a ferry boat to the different villages. Very clean, attentive staff and amazing food! "

"Great location, beautiful hotel grounds, nice pool with water slide, and great views of Lake Atlitan from the hotel property. Parking is free and plenty of space (there are two parking lots). Only downside is there is no fan, fridge or AC, so it can be humid and hot. "

"Check in policy is unclear. The cash policy is listed in FAQ but not noted in the auto message after booking or clearly displayed. It is also misleading when you’re required to leave a credit card for booking. Upon arrival I was told I had to make multiple transactions and my credit card company flagged it as fraud. I had use my limited international cellular service to contact customer service to resolve the issue. Then my room was infested with ants! They were in my bed and suitcase. I had to have my clothes washed. It took 3 days to speak to a manager who didn’t even cover my laundry service. He said this was an expected issue and he gave me Q100 restaurant credit. I expect some spiders but not ants all over the floor, getting into my suitcase and in MY BED."

"Staying at El Picnic was truly unique & an unforgettable experience. Located in one of the quietest areas of Lake Atitlan (Tzununa), it is where you go to truly unwind. I stayed 2 nights. The Owners Gabi & Jochen are absolutely the most wonderful hosts you’ll meet. Warm, genuine, honest individuals who have built this 4 room accommodation out of their Love & Passion (architect & civil engineer). They live on property and are there to serve guests 24/7 and make sure you have the optimal experience. Food: A hearty delicious breakfast is included. Dinner is optional (additional charge), which I highly recommend. Not many restaurants will be open in the area and most guests staying on property opt for Dinner, so its a cozy vibe while meeting other travelers. They have a full bar and make great cocktails - try an “Old fashioned Rum” Rooms: Considered Glamping, but in a luxurious TreeHouse setting. Comfortable bed with a view of the stars at night. It’s all partially opened but there is enough blanket at night & fresh air w/view of the stars. Location: Tzununa is a very quiet, local area, not affected by mass tourism. There are about a dozen other boutique hotels (mainly Yoga related stays). This is good for those wanting to partake in the Yoga & Spiritual scene. Activities: Yoga, Rent a Kayak in the morning, Breakfast, go for a Hike, Massage, Swim, visit neighboring Laketowns via Watertaxi (10 minutes between each).. come back for Dinner & enjoy a nice quiet rest."

"This property charges premium prices but delivers very little beyond the view. The location overlooking Lake Atitlán is beautiful. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. The internet was essentially unusable during my stay. For a hotel at this price level, reliable internet should be basic. I had work to do and could not connect. Mobile data also barely works in this location, so the hotel’s Wi-Fi is the only option. What made the situation worse was the response from staff. No one was helpful or interested in resolving the issue. The explanation I received was that their office computer connected by LAN was working, so the problem must be Wi-Fi. They also blamed the internet provider. In other words, no one took responsibility. One staff member even told me that because this is an “eco-resort,” guests shouldn’t need internet. That response is dismissive. Many guests still need internet for work, communication, or basic travel planning. For one of the more expensive properties around Lake Atitlán, the lack of amenities and the failure to provide reliable internet is unacceptable. The view is fantastic, but the experience did not match the price. Management should address both the connectivity issue and how staff handle guest concerns."
