"A perfect stop on a long multi-week charity trike ride. The staff were friendly and helped me store my trike, the room was clean and warm and the bed very comfy. Perfect!"

8/10 Good

"We had a wonderful week in La Romieu and thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. The location is beautiful: peaceful, full of character and surrounded by stunning countryside. La Romieu and nearby places such as Condom are well worth exploring. The property is fantastic for a large group. There were 28 of us and we made some brilliant memories here. The pool, outdoor space and setting make it a very special place. There are some areas for improvement. Our main concern was damaged tiles around the pool, which we discussed with the owner and were told would be repaired. Some sun loungers would also be a welcome addition. There were a few minor maintenance issues, but nothing that spoiled our holiday. Our main disappointment came after leaving. We received upsetting messages about cleaning and were initially told we had not paid the 280 cleaning fee. Our receipt confirmed we had, which the owner later acknowledged. We accept guests should leave a property respectfully and genuinely believed we had done so. With 28 people staying for a week, a few minor things may have been overlooked, but clearer departure instructions would have avoided much of the misunderstanding. To her credit, the owner acknowledged communication could have been clearer. Also check bedding and towel arrangements before travelling, as these cost extra.Overall, a beautiful property in a wonderful part of France. With improved communication and some maintenance, this would have been a 10/10 stay."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Saint-Jean-De-Thurac?

The best area to stay in Saint-Jean-de-Thurac is within the village centre itself, or in the immediate surrounding countryside, which offers a peaceful rural experience.

The village of Saint-Jean-de-Thurac is small and quiet, centred around its local church and a few essential amenities. It's a place where you'll find traditional stone houses and a genuine sense of rural French life. The main road through the village connects you easily to larger towns nearby, making it a convenient base for exploring the Lot-et-Garonne region.

For couples seeking a tranquil escape, staying in a gîte or a chambre d'hôtes just outside the village offers a delightful experience. These accommodations often come with private gardens, swimming pools, and views of the rolling countryside. It's an ideal setting for relaxing, enjoying local wines, and unwinding away from any hustle and bustle.

Families will also find the quiet surroundings of Saint-Jean-de-Thurac appealing. Many properties offer ample space for children to play, and the low traffic in the area makes it suitable for walks or cycling.

When is the best time to go to Saint-Jean-De-Thurac?

The best time to go to Saint-Jean-De-Thurac is during the late spring (May-June) and early autumn (September-October) months.

These periods offer the most pleasant weather for exploring the Lot-et-Garonne region. You'll find warm, sunny days great for outdoor activities like cycling through the countryside or visiting local markets, but without the intense heat of mid-summer. The vineyards will be lush in late spring, and in early autumn, you can experience the beginning of the harvest season.

For those looking for a quiet, relaxed holiday, these shoulder seasons are ideal. The region is less crowded than during the peak summer months, allowing for a more authentic experience of village life and easier access to local attractions.
