Chalet Near The Lake - Lake Okareka Sleeps 12
NOTE: This is a basic rustic holiday home - NOT 5 STAR - If you are used to 5 star accommodation please do not book it
Just a quick 4 minute walk to the lake! This large 'chalet' like home is sited on a private, peaceful section with huge trees and a lawn area for the kids to play. Not lakefront. OWNERS LIVE NEXT DOOR but leave you to your own devices/privacy
Perfect as a central meeting point for catching up with family/friends from around the North Island, or any larger group set-up, as it sleeps 12+. It is set up so you could have 4 people (small family) up stairs, meeting lounge area in the middle then (larger family/group) double room and bunk area /lounge down stairs PLUS a sleepout.
This accommodation provides the basics, in a setting of 'rustic charm'. It WOULD NOT BE SUITABLE for those groups requiring a 4-5 star hotel environment! It is however, perfect for groups to enjoy each others company and to get away from the 'rat-race' for a peaceful break.
World class locations for Boating, Kayaking , Mountain-biking, Water-skiing, etc are literally just minutes away! The newer Tawa mountain biking carpark is about 4 minutes drive or a less than 15 minute bike ride from the house. Go out the drive - turn right and go to end of Okareka loop rd, Turn left at Tarawera rd and within 100m on the right you will see the carpark where there is a small seasonal coffee area, in a container, bike hire (smaller than Waipa) toilets showers and plenty of parking and of course access to the mountain biking tracks.
If it's 'time out' you're after, relax on the deck, or check out the many cafe/dining options available in nearby Rotorua.
In keeping with the peaceful setting, we ask that noise is kept to an absolute minimum after 10pm. We have, on occasion, been forced to use bond money for gifts to appease disgruntled neighbours!
Please provide ALL OWN LINEN, including sheets, towels and tea-towels. Duvets/Pillows/Blankets are provided.
Please leave house tidy, beds straight and furniture left where it was originally There are rubbish and recycling bins you can use if you are there on Sunday to put at the top of the drive.
Children can play on grass beyond drive between cabin and house and there's also a playground at the back of the hall next door for after hours, Access to the beach - go up the drive, to the right, and turn left on to loop Rd,then turn left on to Steep St, walk down Steep St and at the end you will find little 'girls beach' if you walk to the end of this you can see a path through the trees. It's a quick walk through here to Boyes beach with public toilets, grass areas, shade, toilets and great children's playground. It is also accessible via Millar Rd by car. The boat ramp is further along Okareka Loop rd past calder rd then first left on to Acacia Rd and you will see it on your left.
If you go further along Acacia Rd you will come to the Okareka walk way - it's a bird sanctuary and board walk. There is now a walk right around the lake from here - it takes about 2 hours if you walk the circuit from the house.

If you use the BBQ, please CLEAN it. This is provided as is where is - it was a toss up whether to even provide one after guests have not left it so clean. If in the unlikely event the gas bottle becomes empty please get a replacement keep receipt and send it to me and I will refund the cost.
The house is on 3 levels with access between levels via spiral stairs. Access to living area from driveway also via exterior deck stairs. This set-up may make the house unsuitable for some people.

We loved all the different seating areas both inside and outside. The bbq was great. Location was great being so close to the lake. The bach had everything we needed for a family gathering at a really reasonable price.
Had a great stay. We had all we needed there and a paradise at the door step. Easy lake access, nearby mountain biking and even some kayaks we could use. The place is big enough to hold a couple families and have a great time hanging out out together.
The chalet was so charming and unique, my friends and I enjoyed our stay greatly! The home was spacious and comfortable, and Anne was a lovely hostess with great recommendations on what to do in the Rotorua area. We would happily stay again :)
We had a large group stay.
It was awesome with the different levels for the kids and teens and adults.
Host was amazing, kind and so accommodating of our needs.
Great being close to the lake.
Warm and welcoming hosts; unique, quaint property; lots of beds to sleep people; a beautiful lake to enjoy; close to Rotorua; a reasonable price - this really fit the bill for our family, attending a summer wedding. We really appreciated this rustic and affordable home way from home.
Great amount of space, there are heaps of beds, they are small and simple but the ad states the sort of place it is so they're honest about it which is great.
Perfect location, quiet, cozy
Great communication from the host. thanks
Beautiful Lake area. Close to town.House ok. Dishwasher was reslly useful.Steep internal staircase was a problem 2 adults in the party.Frustrating that gas ran out so early in our stay.
Just as you said, not a 5 star hotel but very homely and cosy. Everything was at our finger tips, ie. firewood, utilities, etc. I'm not one to climb stairs but the younger ones stayed above and me down on the ground floor.
All up enjoyable stay, a pity we didn't have time to look around lake Okareka.
My kids called this the Harry Potter house as it's so quirky and cute. Property Manager was excellent. House sleeps heaps of people at a good rate, which helps out those who are on a budget. The fire kept us nice and warm. Heaps of room to sit together and eat dinner/play games. Well appointed kitchen. Two bathrooms. Close to redwoods. Walk to lake. Was super happy with this budget friendly bach. Thanks heaps
House was pretty good- obviously not a luxury stay but was more than comfortable for 6 of us, and having a dishwasher and washing machine was really helpful. Definitely keep in mind that this is quite far from Rotorua itself- we mostly hung around the house and went to the lake, which was lovely. The hosts were very nice, always willing to help out, however it did feel as if we were being closely monitored as they were always in the backyard and often looking towards the house. Overall good experience though, and good value for money.
