Hidden Gem
Loved this hidden gem. Was the perfect place and location for my dog and I. Loved sitting in the back enjoying the quiet and beautiful river view. Home has so many nice updates and features. Would highly recommend and will stay again. Bill called the day before and was so thoughtful and thorough explaining things with the home and also recommended things to do in the area. Thank you for such a pleasant stay.

It really is that charming!
We found everything that the other reviewers have said to be true. The property is clean, well stocked, and comfortable, and Bill is a wonderful and thorough host. The kitchen in particular has everything you could want in a guest house, but my favorite room was the sun room. The space heater made it especially cozy in the mornings while we were drinking coffee and in the afternoons while we played board games. We did hear the sounds from the trap shooting range nearby on a couple of nights, but the sound wasn't very loud, and they were done there by 9:00 p.m. both nights. It wasn't a problem at all. If you're a sensitive sleeper, you might hear some of the lower-flying planes from Rockford Airport at night. There weren't that many, though, and I think they were noticeable only because the property is so very quiet otherwise. On the nights I took allergy medication before bed, I was knocked out and didn't hear them once. :D I mention this only because I'm a lousy sleeper and I usually do not sleep well on trips at all. I hope the fact that I got as much rest as I did on this trip tells you just how peaceful Bill's guest house is. This was a great place for a leisurely vacation.

Excellent Retreat
This was our second time here. First time was in the spring and we had such a nice time, we came back to see the fall leaves. Perfect place to relax from hectic lives. Bill is a great host. Everything is clean and well maintained. Having coffee in the morning watching the river drift by and the various birds calling and flying along the river. It is an ideal retreat.

Easy to get to close to town nice little cottage house on the rock river kitchen stocked all seems updated Bill was available for any questions and bringing our dog made the stay better loved the 3 season sunroom and procate back yard

2nd Visit- As Wonderful as Expected!
This was our second visit to this property. It is exactly as pictured and even had an improved living room area with comfortable seating and a large TV. This home has all you need if you want to stay in and relax and is also close to surrounding attractions. The fenced in yard is lovely and well-kept. The host (Bill) is a delight. He makes check-in/check-out easy and clearly cares that you enjoy your stay. We plan on making this an annual trip!

This was a beautiful home on Rock lake. It was so much more wonderful than the pictures could show.

Quiet cabin
Bill was very responsive to any calls/texts with any questions I had. The cabin is very clean and in a great location if you’re trying to get away from the busy city. If you want to enjoy a few days of relaxing, this is the place for you.

Nice getaway!
Communication with Bill was great! Home was clean and cozy. Nice to have a view of the river from the kitchen, dining area and the all-season porch. The flowers were blooming and the hummingbirds where enjoying them. Saw a bald eagle about 5 different times. The best was when it swooped down to the river to get it's meal!

Rockford stay
We wanted to get away from the 4th of July fireworks with our dogs. We had such a nice (almost fireworks free) quiet and peaceful time. There were a few fireworks in the distance but not like a war zone in my neighborhood, Chicago. The owner was so nice and welcoming. The house was beautiful.

Great location on the Rock River
We had a great short two day vacation. This is a quiet spot on the river but going North or South your just a beautiful drive away from wonderful small towns with great restaurants. We will be back soon.

We loved everything about this property. My wife liked it so much that she wanted to stay forever!!! It was the perfect size for us and our 2 dogs. Our dogs loved the fenced in yard and would watch the water fowl swim by all day.The home has all the amenities that you could ask for while on vacation and the owner communicated in advance everything we needed to know about the property. We would highly recommend this property to any looking for quiet place on the river, where you can fish, watch the bald eagles fly by or just sit in the backyard and relax with your family. We really enjoyed our stay! It was relaxing and quiet. Just what I needed. I was able to bring my fur babies, so I wasn't stressed worrying about them. It was a quick drive along the river to the little town of Byron, where we found a brewery and great pizza. I highly recommend this cottage.

Everything was as advertised. Yes there was a shooting range making some noise one day as mentioned in the listing, but not a big deal since we were ready for that. The house is nice and well cared for, and great communication. Very relaxing stay, nice river view.

Wonderful Weekend!
Our family had a wonderful weekend here. The area itself was nice and secluded, just what we wanted. The view of the river was amazing. Loved the little dock to fish off of and caught a few bass and a carp. Yard was perfect for our little dog, it was all fenced in so we didn't have to worry about her wandering off. The house itself was very well kept and clean. No issues at all. The owner Bill was very friendly and made sure everything was taken care of, great communication. Can't wait to come back in the spring! Thank you again Bill for a great weekend!

What a great place!
Such a quiet place. The host made our family feel welcome before we even arrived. The house is bright, modern, and clean, with a modern kitchen. A comfortable three-season sunroom offered a great view of the Rock River. Our pups were able to get comfortable in the fenced-in yard. Once, or twice a day, a jet passed over, but that was about it as far as noise went. It was a very restful weekend, and I think all of us left feeling recharged.

Awesome river getaway.
The home was just as advertised. Fishing was fun as was airplane watching. Great communication with the owner. Priceless fenced in back yard for the dogs left us free to enjoy the river. We would definitely like to return.

It's a good place to stay, close to all facilities and easy access to highways. The only spot on things is the person in the area who almost daily target shot, sometimes until well after dark. I know the host has no control for this.

Very relaxing weekend. Fishing off the dock was perfect for my husband. Brought our 2 small dogs. We didn’t have to worry about them running away. Perfect privacy fencing all around the yard and the lake was gated off. All the amenities there were in very good condition and we would definitely go back again.

Peaceful, relaxing stay at the cottage (great weather helped!)
We had a very pleasant 3 nights at the cottage. Beautiful summer weather. We loved the screened in porch with the river view. The trees on both sides of the river were really nice to look at too. As Bill had mentioned, there is some jet traffic from the Rockford airport, but not deafening or constant (I kind of enjoyed watching the planes actually). We also enjoyed the DVD collection. Thanks for a lovely stay!

Way, way exceeded expectations!
Wow! We rate this host sky-high fabulous! He went so far above and beyond any other VRBO host we’ve experienced, we’re spoiled now! His super cute property has touches you’d expect in a luxury rental yet you’ll feel relaxed and barefoot-lazy peaceful here. Clean, cozy and inviting… We didn’t want to leave!! Highly recommend! A perfect getaway!!
This cottage on the Rock River couldn't have been more perfect for us to getaway for a quick mid-summer break. The cottage is nicely updated and extremely comfortable. The three-season room looking out at the private backyard and river was perfect and where we spent the majority of our time. Bill Crawford, the owner, was perfectly communicative, providing suggestions for where we might want to eat and shop, and information about the house and the neighborhood. There is an airport nearby so there is an occasional airplane flying overhead, but it was not often and didn't prevent us from thoroughly enjoying the house, yard, dock and our stay. We enjoyed going into Byron and Rockford, both an easy short drive. The area boasts many great restaurants, micro-breweries and distilleries, Anderson Japanese Gardens, Klemn Arboretum, miles of paved and scenic river walk trails, excellent opportunities to hike and explore, and really nice and helpful people. We're already planning our next visit to this wonderful house and area.

We were very pleased.
Great place. Very clean and well kept. Great fenced in yard for the dogs. Wonderful communication from the owner. The ONLY issue we had was with the TV. It was a smart TV and it kept crashing and restarting itself. We tried everything with no luck. There were lots of bugs because of the time of year (but that was to be expected). Lovely view. Grill works great. We were very happy with the stay!

Great Property!
The pictures do not do this home and yard justice. It was much nicer than we were expecting and it was a perfect yard for both humans and pups to hang out. The porch was also great when it got a bit rainy during the day so we could still enjoy the view and fresh air. As noted in the listing there is a trap shooting range that you can hear (it is not constant). It did not bother us or our dogs but if you have a dog that is sensitive to thunderstorms and fireworks they may be a bit scared. Bill was also super responsive with any questions we had. Highly recommend this rental for anyone looking for a relaxing getaway!
