Great Stay – Totally awesome/beautiful location! Just do it if you are looking for your own private setting on the quiet end of the Island. We are an adult family of six. Desiree made it easy to book and was very responsive to questions we had prior to booking and just ahead of the trip. Pudens (property caretaker) lives on site in a separate building with his wife. He has been there 17 years; he loves to snorkel and joined us a few times. Glad we hired Sherilee and her mom to do all the shopping and come in daily (by boat) to do all the cooking. Great cook, great personality, and very accommodating to individual dietary needs. We all felt like old friends by the end of the week. If you are looking for a remote location (dirt roads) away from the hustle and bustle of the west end this is the place for you.
Big Rock is incredible. The pictures truly don’t do it justice. It’s essentially a mini private resort—perfect for a medium-sized family or group. We stayed for eight days over Christmas and New Year’s with seven family members, including my 75-year-old dad and three kids under 13, and there was more than enough space for everyone. The master bedroom in the main house is ideal for a couple, and the two casitas are fantastic for added privacy. Everything is modern, well thought out, and in excellent condition. We also had Sherilee and Daphene cooking and cleaning for us during the stay, and they were absolutely phenomenal. They took care of everything, made the trip incredibly relaxing, and were genuinely wonderful hosts. 10 out of 10. I can’t say enough good things about them.A few helpful notes for future guests:The property is very remote. If you’re looking to truly unplug and unwind away from the world, this is your place. The road in is no joke. Both the main road from the airport and the final stretch to the house. Be patient. It’s 100% worth it.Bring bug spray. Nothing overwhelming, but definitely useful. The beach is extremely private and beautiful, but it sits right up against a reef. We brought snorkel gear and used it every single day.
I can’t say enough good things about our stay at Big Rock! From the start communication was easy and fast. We were met at Kristi’s to guide us to the property the first time. Pulling up we were blown away! The pictures do not do it justice! The view, the beach, the pool… everything was perfection! We traveled with our family of 4 (kids 5&7) and another family of 4 (kids 12&9) there was enough space for us to feel connected but have private space. The snorkeling right off the dock was the best we’ve experienced! Pudens, the caretaker, made the trip even better. He was so kind and helpful. He took the time to teach my son how to clean conch and would help them get coconuts. He took us on several boat adventures, telling us all about the island. He helped make one of our best family trips even better! We will definitely be back next year!!
Our 8 day stay at Big Rock was relaxing and adventurous. This property is seriously off the grid. Not in the sense of modern luxuries like electricity but away from people and noise. You get a good sense of how the locals live on the trip to the house (do not rent a car, hire a driver! The roads are treacherous!) and with small trips to Oak Ridge for groceries. The house, property, and pool are very nice but could use a few updates like the railings in higher up areas. I would not bring small children until these items are updated. Our group highly recommends hiring Sherilee and Daphne Cook to prepare your meals. Two of the most wonderful people you will ever meet. They made the trip relaxing for us and were very helpful with any daily activities not to mention they are fantastic cooks. Pudens does a good job taking care of the property and can help with anything you need. All you need to do is ask. Overall we felt very safe on the property and would return.
Remote and secluded this property is breathtakingly beautiful. Personal attention from on-site grounds manager helps to make sure your every need is met. It is very remote and the roads are a chore; a 4 wheel drive truck rental was necessary. We so enjoyed the area; snorkeling on the reef right off the boat dock! Boat rides for easy grocery access and sightseeing was so fun. Pudens, the grounds keeper/manager, was always available. He cut down coconuts for us, got fresh seafood from a local fisherman, and made sure we knew where and how to go to see the "good stuff". The interiors are nicely and comfortably appointed. We had all the modern conveniences we needed. The infinity pool is so nice after a long day in the sea. Our family had plenty of spots to relax and converse as the property hosts two outdoor kitchens/grill areas. We wanted to have a pizza night, but ran out of time! I could go on and on....Just be prepared to plan on eating in house. The trips out to restaurants is difficult. But our family loves to cook together and we were able to easily get groceries. We did eat several special meals in some really great restaurants. The island has so many areas to explore and being on Calabash Bight is a great way to get to see all of the island. Definitely go to Camp Bay Beach!
Recently stayed at Big Rock Jan 3-7, 2024 for my 40th bday and let me tell you this property is FABULOUS!! A group of my girlfriends and I choose Big Rock because of the views and amenities and it did NOT disappoint. The property is better than the photos and like another reviewer said, it's literally a private resort and everything is updated. The lanai is huge and the sliding glass doors open easily for you to enjoy the breath taking view.
The view!! I can't get it out of my head. Pudens, who manages the property on-site is a gem. We had sooooooo much fun with him and he knows the area very well. He set up the massage tables for us, took us out in the boat and drove us to the West End and West Bay.
We initially had plans the entire stay to enjoy the island but the property was so perfect we literally lounged by the pool every day. Be mindful this property is on the East End of the island so there are limited restaurants and they normally close around 6 p.m. Unfortunately, the listing mentions an on-site cook but there isn't one. I would say that's the only con. With the restaurant situation you def need a cook there. Desiree, was lovely to provide a chef contact but she was more expensive than the on-site cooking fee provided. Other than that, I will definitely be back. This was a trip of a lifetime at a gorgeous property.
Not your typical tourist type stay. You feel as though you are in the jungle on the ocean. The property is strung out over a hillside overlooking the ocean. A main house, 2 private cassitas, a huge cover pavilion with pizza oven, a cover outdoor kitchen by pool, private infinity pool, separate exercise building looking into the ocean as well as Many screened in areas. The property manager is onsite but uphill and is always at your disposal. Pundes was a delight and arranged a snorkel tour, pizza oven lighting, fresh fish caught and delivered by a local as well as a trip to a bay by village to see turtles, monkeys, and tarpons. We did lose power for entire day which made sleeping very difficult. The beach area is not large and while there is coral near the dock, the water was somewhat rough most days. We did snorkel there twice. Totally relaxing away from the crowds

Beautiful property!
The property was beautiful, clean, and well maintained. The hosts, Isabel & Pruden (are wonderful!), and live very nearby and were very responsive to anything we needed. If you’re looking for something secluded and remote, this is a wonderful property!
Big Rock is fantastic. We thought we were renting a house, but what we didn’t fully realize is that we were actually renting a private resort! The property has everything you need and incredibly helpful staff. I highly recommend staying here if you are looking for an amazing property off the beaten path. Two families of four and a friend stayed with ample room. We felt well taken care of from beginning to end - the cooking was terrific, the house in incredible shape, and direction on activities around the island were very helpful. If you book, you are in store for a an incredible vacation.
Super clean property. The exterior pictures do not do it justice. The location is quite secluded, have the wonderful onsite staff pick you up at the airport and utilize them for the daily cooking, which was great. Do not rent a car, it is not worth it. Plan on hanging at the property or traveling by boat. The snorkeling is full of fish, but all the coral is bleached at this point.
Big Rock definitely Rocks! It was an amazing property. There is no need to leave because everything you could want is onsite - infinity pool, outdoor kitchen, gym, private beach, dock, and amazing snorkeling you can swim to, just to name a few! However, having a rental car allowed us to explore both the east end and west end of the island. A 4x4 is definitely needed if you plan to rent a vehicle, there are some off the beaten path roads, but that was part of the adventure! Prudens was a huge help all week and so nice! Took us out on the boat for an amazing afternoon of snorkeling, stop at Lime Cay, mangrove tour and lunch on the water. Thanks for a wonderful week! We hope to return someday!
The Big Rock Roatan House was a fantastic place for a large family vacation. We were a group of 10. With 5 bedrooms, it had plenty of space and privacy for all. The property was in excellent condition and very clean. The pool was nice with great views of the ocean. We enjoyed the outside eating areas and kitchens. The outside pizza oven was fantastic and made very good pizzas.
The property has two staff members, Puden and Isabel, they provided excellent service for our stay. They were very helpful in planning some activities during our stay, which included a mangrove boat tour, private snorkeling trip on a catamaran and a boat ride and fun day on Lime Cay. Isabel is also a very good cook and Puden a great pizza maker.
The Big Rock had a large sandy beach with good swimming. Although it was very windy and wavy during our stay, some members of our group were able to do some snorkeling off of the beach. The snorkeling was very good with vibrant and healthy coral, an abundance of marine life and a sting ray.
First time on the Island and the property is all it was represented as- beautiful, clean, away from the tourist areas. Roads are fine- not “as dramatic as many make it to be”If you are looking to get away - this is your roadmap to rejuvenate your life.I do recommend to get out and see the island and embrace the culture- Puden lives on the gounds and interacts as much as you want him or need him to. He took us out to amazing snorkeling site and into 5 finger cay to eat.We also hired Sherilee and her sister to cook island cuisine 2 notes. The food was only second to t to heir amazing company.I feel like we made maxing connections and started a foundation for amazing international friendships. If you are use to and prefer “Resort and Cruise Ship” Living- this is not for you. If you are open to exotic surroundings and open to learning bout island and cultures … book here now. It’s clean, has all the amenities a home could need but the ambiance and hospitality will leave you with a lasting appreciation for nature- island life and adventure.Check out Camp Bay Beach on the east end of the island .. close to this home. It’s straight out of an island dream. Thanks Big Rock-Much Love….
