Cool off in clear water, soak up the friendly atmosphere, and enjoy some high-quality food and handcrafted beer at one of the North East’s best-loved beach towns.

Delaware’s Rehoboth Beach has maintained a small-town charm with a clean beach and many walking trails and parks to explore. A small wooden boardwalk, quaint shops and enough attractions to keep youngsters busy make it a fun yet relaxing destination.

Stroll the one-mile (1.6-kilometre) boardwalk and gaze out at the Atlantic. Go for a dip in the water or simply sit back and relax. You can rent a sailing boat, go fishing, or even get surfing lessons. Kids will love attractions such as the Funland Fun Park and the Beach Arcade. Pick up the pace with a trip to Jungle Jim’s. Its roller coasters, waterslides and rock-climbing facilities make it fun for the whole family.

Head downtown to explore the shopping strip and grab some lunch. Check out the Rehoboth Beach Museum to learn about the local area. For more history, explore the Anna Hazard Museum. This museum is modelled on a Methodist beach camp tent that would have stood in the area over a hundred years ago and contains period exhibits.

Wander around town in the evenings and choose from a great selection of restaurants and bars. The town is a hot spot for fans of craft beer. Theatre goers should set aside an evening and see a play at the Clear Space Theatre, home to Rehoboth Beach’s professional theatre group.

Explore the surrounding area on a walk to Gordon’s Pond or spend a day in Delaware Seashore State Park. Drop by the Indian River Life Saving Station Museum to see the faithfully restored 1905 building and learn about the Life Saving Service.

Rehoboth Beach is less developed and more relaxed than many of its neighbours and offers the perfect opportunity to relax and enjoy some of life’s simpler pleasures.
