Beautiful property which is bigger than the pictures look. Down a private lane with glorious gardens and a very homely interior. We stayed as a group of friends but already planning our next trip as families.

Really beautiful building in stunning surroundings
This is the first time we've stayed here and we were very impressed with the house, surroundings, etc. Very quiet area with a fantastic pub at the bottom of the hill.

A lovely house and garden in a good location
This property has much to recommend it and we were very happy with the house, garden and excellent pool. There were a few issues which I have pointed out to the agents; if these are rectified, I would upgrade my marks to excellent.

Holme Street House
We had a lovely week at Holme Street House. Here are 3 positives and 3 not so positives (but in general the positives well outweigh the negatives, but I like ot give a balanced review).
's
The space is fantastic - inside and out - so many places to relax, eat, play.
The Swimming pool area
Pretty much everything you need for a large group (ie. kitchen utensils etc.)
-'s
Our kids didnt like the woodlice in the house
The dishwasher wasn't functioning properly
Could do with a washing line or clothes horse
All in all, great stay and we'd go back!

Amazing country retreat
What an amazing place. Country house with charm, history, lots of communal space and very well equipped kitchen. It has its quirks as you would expect from an old building - some low doorways, some tired decor - but it is beautiful. And the grounds and gardens are spectacular. And then the pool - huge, warm, very clean - a lovely space to soak up the sun, if you are lucky enough to get any (we were) and to sit and relax. Handy for local pub, nature reserve, vineyard and great walks. A fantastic place to spend a special birthday with family and friends.

The perfect Christmas getaway
The perfect Christmas getaway, felt just like the cottage out of the holiday but bigger! Beautiful surrounding landscapes and lots of space for 12 guests. It was a little too cold for us to use the pool however would definitely revisit in the summer as it looked amazing! The outside annex was done to a really high modern country style which was beautiful, although the rest of the house is was nice it was a little dated. The house was clean and comfortable and we would all definitely stay again and recommend to anyone looking for a countryside getaway.

Lovely cottage shame about a few of the facilities
The cottage and grounds are stunning and the pool is brilliant.
The bedrooms are large and spacious. We had issues with the fridge and the dishwasher. The dishwasher didn't clean any of the dishes which meant washing everything by hand and the fridge just didn't keep anything cold - this meant we had to throw a lot of our food away.
The showers can also be inconsistent if a lot of you are trying to use them in the morning.
That said the cottage is really beautiful and we had a lovely stay.

Cottage set in beautiful grounds with private outdoor Pool
First view you see is a Picturesque cottage set in beautiful grounds at the end of a private gated drive. Felt very safe and secure.
The accomodation of the cottage is good with 4 bedrooms. Two twin and two king size. All good sized rooms. Some beds need replacing which I gather the owner is sorting. Lovely shower room. The en-suite is serviceable but shower a bit pathetic.
Bedding and towels provided of a high standard.
Two lounges and a dining room. All comfortable and nice to have extra space if it’s a large group. Kitchen has an Aga plus oven/hob and microwave. Plenty of cooking utensils, pans and dishes. Lots of crockery and cutlery. Lovely big kitchen table too.
Dove Cote is a pretty space. Couple of issues but eventually sorted.
Outside space is its crowning glory.
Pool area lovely.
House needs a little tlc in areas but in view of its age I would think it’s a never ending task for the owners.
We did set alarm off and didn’t have instructions to it turn off. Eventually found house book and sorted it! Poor neighbours!
A couple of cleaning issues which have also been taken on board.
All in all we had a lovely week. Pool was great and grounds were beautiful.
We were a mixed group ranging in age from 90 to 4, with a lively dog. The old house and its stunning gardens were everything we had hoped for. The kids loved the pool although it was a bit chilly, and the gardens were the pefect setting for games and just sitting and admiring the roses. The younger adults loved the privacy of the dovecote although the ladder to the bed platform was tricky in the night. The house was just the right side of homely, a bit shabby in places but with plenty of room for all and some lovely old furniture. The kitchen was very well equipped with loads of crockery and glasses, and we loved the aga. The only things we would change would be the mattresses on a couple of the beds which were quite uncomfortable and the en-suite shower which could have done with replacing.

Really needs renovation
Lovely location - however it’s not really suitable for rental. The hot tap in the kitchen sink doesn’t work at all - nothing comes out of it? A mystery as the downstairs loo next door has plenty of hot water in the tap. Really inconvenient to wash up. Dishwasher doesn’t really clean properly. Aga is good but no shelves available to fit in the oven. Everywhere has peeling paint or chipped damaged wall paper. The showers are a disaster- the en-suite is taped together with masking tape with a feeble spray and the family bathroom shower drain - is blocked some how - so as soon as you have a shower the whole floor floods? Many of the lights don’t work - lots of redundant light switches. The garden doors to the patio impossible to unlock - unsure if the keys weren’t there or just badly cut? The key board needs to be properly labelled - it takes far too long to try and work out which key belongs to which door? Broken blinds etc etc I have taken photos and happy to share .

Beautiful location- the rest is a shame
We stayed here as a family of 10 for a birthday and our yearly family holiday. The location and grounds are nice. The house, unfortunately is tired and unclean in areas, with an issue with woodlice ( apparently due to being old) but the house does smell damp. Cupboards are missing handles, walls are dirty, sofas are sticky and unclean, oven shelves don't fit, shower in the ensuite is not fit for purpose, issue with the main bathroom and clogged drains, plug sockets not fixed to walls, blinds that don't work, holes and paper coming off walls.. I could go on..
The listing does give the impression of an old country house but in my opinion, this doesn't mean it has to be run down and dirty.
The Gardener also visits twice a week for approximately 6 hours each time. She isn't discreet and spent her time on a ride on lawn mower and strimming. This doesn't exactly give the quiet and secluded holiday you may be after. The pool maintenance person also comes to clean and add chemicals but again this wasn't ideal for us as it was done on one of the few sunny days we had and at lunchtime, right in time for the kids to want to go outside, I do appreciate this has to be done though.
Overall, I wouldn't book here again and I wouldn't recommend.
