Watch a presentation using state-of-the-art technology at Brazil’s first planetarium to learn about the constellations above São Paulo’s skyline.

There’s a lot to learn at Planetário Professor Aristóteles Orsini. São Paulo’s Planetarium teaches visitors about the skies above Brazil. Bring the whole family to enjoy the planetarium’s various programs, including presentations to teach kids about the stars and planets visible in the southern hemisphere. Enjoy the walking trails and lawns of the surrounding Ibirapuera Park.

Planetário Professor Aristóteles Orsini was built in 1957, making it Brazil’s first planetarium. It was a huge success among São Paulo locals and has been educating residents and visitors about the night skies ever since.

Enter the planetarium’s 18-metre (59-foot) wide dome. The planetarium has been refurbished and widened so that 300 people can fit into the building at any one time.

Visit in time to watch one of the regular shows. Sit in the dark dome and let the astronomer guide you through the constellations. Due to the planetarium’s high-tech Zeiss fiber-optic projector, the display on the ceiling is highly detailed and beautiful to watch.

Presentations take about 50 minutes. Marvel at the vibrant colours and strange shapes of the wide array of stars in the Brazilian night sky. Each presentation is rich with information about the distance of stars and the makeup of the solar system’s planets. Stay around the planetarium after the presentation for more information sessions. Join in one of the weekend workshops. Kids will love learning to make star charts and other activities.

The Planetário Professor Aristóteles Orsini is located within Ibirapuera Park. It is accessible by bus or metro from the city centre. There are metered car parks in the streets around the area. During the summer, the planetarium can be busy. Arrive early to get a seat at a presentation.

The planetarium is only open on weekends. Entry is free.
