Hunter Valley stay at Thistle Hill

Great spot to explore the Hunter Valley from. Beautiful grounds, great area to relax by the pool. Breakfast on site would have been fantastic or a breakfast basket in the room but other than that a perfect spot for a short break with our dog.

All the small touches and attention to detail made this a most marvellous and enjoyable stay. Would recommend to anyone wanting to enjoy a weekend at the Vineyards. Beautiful rooms, super quiet and well maintained overall. Great fire pit area also. We give it a 10/10.

In the middle of the nature

Lovely spot surrounded by nature. What we found strange was that according to hotels.com the booked room was INCLUDING breakfast. However upon arrival we where informed that the breakfast would be 2 x 20 AUD extra, as the breakfast was not mentioned on the booking. I checked on my own receipt from hotels.com and also didn't see breakfast on it. Not a big problem for us, we just drove into the next Cafe in the morning as we aren't huge breakfast eaters anyway. It's just confusing and I suggest that this should be worked out and clarified.

Thistle hill is a little slice of heaven

Greeted by beautiful hosts Donna and Stewart, and their 3 lovely dogs. This is a must stay for all travellers going to the Hunter Valley . You could stay overnight but we found one is not enough and we needed more time. Donna and Stewart can not do enough to make your stay more comfortable. Rooms are very clean with everything you need and there is a great pool to take a dip In on those hot days. There are plenty of places to sit under a tree with your favourite drink and admire the view or simply watch the sunset. We didn’t feel like going out for dinner so Donna and Stewart suggested to cook us up a homemade pizza and it was beautiful and it was not a bother for them. Donna and Stewart are a wealth of information and have plenty of suggestions on what you can do if you need some direction. Breakfast was a huge assortment of anything you want all freshly made but I highly recommend you ask you a Stewart specialty “brekkie pie”. A call this place a little place of heaven and we will be returning again and again. Thank you Donna and Stewart for a perfect weekend away for my husband and myself.

We had a fabulous stay! The property is stunning, 3 beautiful accommodation options (the guesthouse and 2 individual homes). Wide open spaces to walk around and enjoy nature, pet friendly, easily access to nearby restaurants and wineries. We stayed in the Luxury Villa (an unexpected upgrade from the owner - thank you) and it was wonderful. Spacious home, beautifully appointed kitchen, master bedroom and en-suite, multiple living rooms to choose from and a lovely alfresco area and sparkling pool. The Guesthouse was completely booked out the weekend we stayed there (boys golf weekend) and even though they were celebrating on the Saturday night, the noise was not excessive and they were friendly and polite. They even offered us some fab good they were cooking up in the bbqs (thanks again guys, so tasty). We would absolutely recommend this property and will stay there again in the future.

The stay itself was amazing however a slight misunderstanding with our booking. My stay was booked for the 18th of March to the 20th however Jo had it in her calendar for the 19th. We were still given a room however not the one we paid for Jo was very apologetic. The room we were given on the 19th was beautiful and lots of nice touches. Freshly baked biscuits, a cheese platter and wine.

Thistle Hill is set back from the road, and so peaceful. The owners Jo and John are genuinely friendly people. There was complimentary wine and cheese in the room, plus they brought a bottle of bubbly around as it was my birthday. The rooms were quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was included, and the perfect start to the day. The grounds were picturesque, and the pool refreshing. An absolute delight to stay there.

The property was situated away from the busy area. It was quiet, beautiful with a lot of space and greenery around. It was a quaint guest house, not commercialised at all. The hosts were great and the service was very personal.
