4 bed spacious modern townhouse with spectacular views over the River Tamar.
Our 4 bedroom 2,000 sq foot modern townhouse is set on the River Tamar, with direct access to the river via a public launchway, ideal for canoeing, boating or in the summer, for swimming. All bedrooms have a writing desk. Please note that during school holidays, ( February, May and October half term weeks, Easter, and the whole of July and August) arrivals and departures have to be on a Saturday. The rest of the year any day can be booked to arrive or leave. There is a small riverside park and play area opposite the house. The ground floor comprises two bedrooms at the front of the house with those amazing views over the Tamar. One of these bedrooms is a double and the other is a single. There is also a large double bedroom to the rear. The large family bathroom on this floor has a toilet, wash basin and a bath with a shower over the bath. There is also a very useful utility room with another toilet and sink and also with a washing machine and separate dryer. The first floor comprises an open plan fitted kitchen, dining and sitting area. It is filled with natural light and is dominated by the panoramic views of the river through the large sliding glass doors. The fitted kitchen includes an electric double oven, gas hob, dishwasher, and fridge freezer. There is also a microwave, slow cooker, rice cooker and all the kitchen equipment you would expect. The solid wooden dining table seats 8, even without being extended and all those sitting round can look out at the views while eating. There is another smaller round table next to the window overlooking the river for a cosier breakfast, drink or meal. The sitting area has three settees so while sitting comfortably you can enjoy spectacular views either up river to the Tamar Bridge and the confluence of the Tamar and Tavy rivers, or down river towards the thickly wooded grounds of Anthony House, a National Trust property (where Alice in Wonderland was filmed). In the summer, twice weekly regattas are held with huge yachts sweeping silently up and down in front of the house, and all year round rowers practise for the Cornish Gig trials. Wildlife, especially birds, abound through all the seasons. There is a telescope, but you may want to bring your own binoculars. There is always something to see and watch and even just the changing light throughout the day right through to sunset is amazing. However, just in case there is not enough going on out of the windows, there is a TV and DVD player, and Wifi is available in all rooms. The second floor is given over entirely to their spacious master suite, with a king sized bed, comfy chairs and writing desk. The bedroom is flooded with natural light from four velux windows and a sliding patio door which leads directly out onto the veranda with commanding views up and down the Tamar. The veranda has a cube dining table and chairs, so you might choose to absorb the magnificent sunsets with a glass of whatever makes you happiest. The adjoining ensuite bathroom has a large free standing bath with taps in the middle, a separate shower cubicle, washbasin and toilet. Parking
There is a single garage at the rear of the house, and parking for one further vehicle in front of the garage. In addition, there is almost unlimited parking beside the Tamar, under the Bridge, just a few seconds walk from the house.
The Location and Surroundings: A bus service, two minutes walk away will take you into Central Plymouth, with its vibrant Barbican port area, and the historic Hoe. The National Aquarium, situated here, is spectacular. In addition, Saltash train station, just a mile away, provides access into Plymouth, but trains also run deep into Cornwall through spectacular countryside, and make for a great day out at St Ives or Penzance. From St Budeaux station, the trains take you along the Devon and Cornwall border via the famous Tamar Valley Railway, stopping at riverside towns like Calstock, where a viaduct carries the train high above the river, and Cothele, a stunning National Trust medieval manor house frozen in time, just a short walk along the riverbank. In the summer, leisurely river cruises run from Plymouth Barbican right up to Calstock. The best food is at The Boot, in Calstock but you will need to book in advance. Dartmoor can be reached within 20-30 minutes drive, and another NT property, Buckland Abbey, formerly home of Sir Francis Drake, is also close with its own gardens, walks and even a Rembrandt on display. Cycling or walking along the Plym Valley takes you from the edge of Plymouth up a gentle incline onto Dartmoor, a track laid on the course of a disused railway. The impressive Burrator Dam, also on Dartmoor, has walking and cycling tracks through woodland and moorland, surrounding the lake. All these activities are within 30 minutes of the house. The ancient town of Tavistock, with its riverside gardens and pannier market, is another gem. Crossing the Tamar Bridge, miles of sandy beaches of Cawsand and Kingsand, (idyllic Cornish fishing villages), and the vast sandy beaches of Whitsand Bay and Downderry. There is go cart racing and, (my preferred option), a zip wire ride at Adrenaline Quarry, just 14 miles away towards Liskeard in Cornwall.
Nearby eating: There is an excellent local pub, The Ferry House Inn, a short walk along the riverside which serves home-cooked food.(reservation a good idea). A walk up the hill, and across the Tamar bridge pedestrian walkway leads to Saltash with a wide range of restaurants, pubs and shops.

Great space for an extened family. Super living area and well equipped kitchen. Short drive from quiet harbours over the bridge and all the attractions of Plymouth.
Lovely well equipped place with amazing views. The house could have been a bit cleaner, lots of dust and hair on the floor. Some areas of the house are looking tired but happy to overlook as it’s a great base for exploring Devon & Cornwall.
Excellent stay in this well laid out house. Huge living room with panoramic views from the large windows. Plenty of comfortable seating. Well equipped kitchen. Bedrooms comfortable.
Plenty to do in and around Plymouth even though the weather wasn't very kind (well it was November).
Very comfortable and clean. Spacious and bright. Great water views and those of the bridge. There was a problem with the heating which the landlord took care of right away. We had everything we needed during our stay. We were not familiar with a gas stove (coming from Canada) and didn't want to risk using it. No instructions were provided. We used the microwave and oven and managed fine.
We loved the place. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with mobility issues because it's on 3 floors. Also, if you don't have car, you have to rely on buses and taxis. (there's no UBER in Plymouth). The bus into Plymouth is only 2 minute walk from the property but doesn't run on Saturday or Sunday. The walk to get on the main bus lines is an extremely long steep walk up the hill behind the property. Download the Need-A-Cab before you go. It's great.
There's nothing close to the property i.e. a shop to pick up anything so plan accordingly if you don't have a car. There's a wonderful local pub about a 5 minute walk away where the food is good and the locals are so friendly. We were welcomed with open arms! I'm sure they're still talking about us!
Across the street and just to the left is a small cafe (run by Bill) that serves cheap breakfasts from 8-11:30. There's no signage.
We had the experience of a gale force storm (Storm Bert) blow through on our second last night there which was quite an experience.
Overall we had a great time, loved our accommodations and would go back in a heartbeat!
Liked: Cleanliness, amenities, property conditions & facilities, communication
The house is very comfortable and nicely modernised and it's in a great location. However the best feature is certainly the view which is spectacular across the river.
We enjoyed staying at Mark’s home. The beds were very comfortable and the views couldn’t be better. Mark was very responsive and helpful when I contacted him.
The house is spacious and well equipped with plenty of space of the whole family. The views of the river, bridge and Saltash were beautiful, even on a wet windy winter weekend, and helped make our stay very relaxing.
The house was large and would accommodate a large group. The views from the house are outstanding. We really enjoyed our stay. The parking was a bit problematic for us. We were driving a seven passenger vehicle and it was difficult to maneuver into the parking spot by the garage.
This house has spectacular views and is very spacious. I went with my husband, mum, brother, niece and her partner plus 3 dogs. The house was big enough for us all to have room for ourselves and be together. Very clean and everything we needed for a fabulous stay. We were only 15 minutes away from my other brother who lives in Plymouth, we would definitely go back to this property. Many things to explore.
Fantastic house with the most amazing view of the Tamar Bridge. Always something different to look at from the picture window or balcony.
Beautiful decor of house and brilliantly equipped with everything you could need.
Brilliant for older teenagers, who can catch the bus into Plymouth and do their own thing but also great for a bit of peace for adults. Lots to see in the local area. Had a fantastic stay and would highly recommend this property,.
The house was wonderful. It was very spacious and comfortable and was thoughtfully furnished to make the most of the views along the river. I only wish we'd been there in warmer weather (we were there for Christmas) so that we could sit outside on the upstairs balcony. The kitchen was well equipped and had everything we needed. The owner had obviously gone to a lot of trouble to leave little notes explaining how the sliding doors, bathroom fan, etc worked, so we had a very positive experience. The house is on 3 levels, so the only drawback for anyone with mobility issues would be that there is no bathroom on the 1st floor where the main living area and kitchen is situated.
As a group of mum's in need of a break from the family, we were blown away by the house, it is simply beautiful.
The poop deck on the top floor was the best place to hang out, fortunately we had the weather for it.
Sitting downstairs in the living room, you could lose hours just staring out at the boats, it was so relaxing.
There's not a huge amount to do in the area, we did walk across the bridge into Saltash, which was fun.
Will def be back...
This is a large and spacious property with quality furnishings that are clean and well-maintained. The location is good, being ideally placed to visit both Devon and Cornwall, and it takes just a few minutes to get on to the main road. Alternatively, we found free parking and a regular train service from Saltash station.
But by far the standout feature of this property is the view across the Tamar river, which is enjoyed from the large open plan lounge and the balcony from the master bedroom. The telescope is a nice touch and many hours were spent each evening watching the activities on the water as the sun set. I look forward to returning soon with some friends who were unable to join us this time.
