The best area to stay in Platanos is along the main beach road, particularly the stretch near the village centre.

This area is the heart of Platanos, offering direct access to the long, sandy beach. You'll find a good selection of hotels, apartments, and tavernas lining the road, with many offering sea views. It's a relaxed setting, superb for those who enjoy being close to the water and having amenities within easy reach.

For families, staying near the village centre on the beach road is ideal. The beach here is generally calm and well-organised, with sunbeds and umbrellas available. Many of the tavernas are family-friendly, and the convenience of having everything from ice cream shops to small supermarkets nearby makes for a stress-free holiday with children.

Couples looking for a peaceful escape will also appreciate this location. The evenings are pleasant, with the sound of the waves and plenty of spots for a romantic dinner by the sea.

The best time to go to Platanos is during the shoulder seasons of May, June, September, and early October.

During these months, you'll find the weather pleasantly warm and sunny, superb for enjoying the beaches and outdoor activities without the intense heat and larger crowds of the peak summer months. The sea is also warm enough for swimming, and you're likely to find better value on flights and accommodation. This period is ideal for couples looking for a relaxed holiday with opportunities for exploration and good food.

Families travelling with school-aged children might find the summer holidays in July and August more convenient, despite the higher temperatures and busier resorts. While Platanos itself remains relatively quiet, the nearby beaches and attractions will be at their liveliest, offering plenty of activities for youngsters.
