Our house (Maria's Sweet home) is located in village Carthiana Kissamou (Chania - West Crete) situated only 8 to 10 minutes away from the towns of Kolymbari and Kastelli, with Fantastic beaches, restaurants, tavernas, marinas, shops, medical centers. e.t.c.
It is also 25 minutes away (35 km) from the port and the international airport of Chania.

Our house is situated 8 km away from the nearest beach and 32 km away from the city of Chania and the famous Old Port. It is ideal to explore the west Crete on your short or longer stays in the area.

The house although situated in a secluded village in the interior of Crete it offers the opportunity to visit a multitude of the most beautiful beaches in the north, west and south of the island.
Within minutes you could be swimming in the crystal clear waters of the sandy beach of Falassarna in the west. You could also purchase boat tickets on the way for an excursion to the majestic beach of Balos and Gramvousa with its infact Venetian Castle.
Further southwest you could visit elafonisi with its famous blue lagoon. Bring your mask and snorkel the crystal clear water is full of colorful fish and sea anemones.
To the south of the house on the Libyan sea you may visit Paleochora with its sandy beach. Its traditional fishing port, with breathtaking sunsets will entice to return!
To the North of the house are thw towns of Kissamos and Kolymbari. Both towns are within minutes drive from the house and offer all needs that a visitor may need. From the smallest equipment to make your stay on the beach more enjoyable. There is also medical care.
To ne North-East of the house is the town of Platanias with its heavy tourist traffic but its bars for music and dance. Further rast but again minutes drive away you may visit the old city of Chania and its picturesque narrow gobble stone streets. That wind down to the old port. Best visited at night to avoid the traffic as you enter the city. In the port and the surrounding streets you will be able to browse the shops that do it and sell the authentic Cretan art from leather sandals to unique pieces of gold, silver, copper stone, ceramics, jutricately worth wool and Cretan knives. Regardless you will encounter something very unique. Plan to stay up late.
Crete with its millennia long ties with Byzantine is dotted with monasteries and places of worship of significant importance are the Moni Gonias in Kolymbari with its Christian Orthodox Academy. Monastery of Chrissoskalitissa on the way to visit Elafonisi. Monastery Gouvernetou and Tsagarollon close to Chania.
On the way to Elafonissi you may also climb the steps to the cave of Agia Sophia where you will witness stalaktites and stalagmites in the making. When there look up and you will see families of eagles soaring close to the walls of the gorge.
