About this property
Tranquil Retreat w/ New River and Mountain Views! River Access, Hiking
Welcome to our cabin in the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains. Located in the gated community of River Country Estates in Piney Creek, NC, the cabin sits in the northern part of Alleghany County and very near the Virginia border and Ashe County.
Our treehouse retreat has two large wraparound decks with multiple seating areas to enjoy the amazing views of the New River and long range views of the mountains. You just feel the stress melt away surrounded by tall trees and rhododendrons. Enjoy the sunrise or sunset with your favorite beverage and catch a glimpse of the wildlife including deer and turkeys wandering by. The cabin is perfect for a tranquil getaway with family and friends. Additional side deck provides a space to enjoy a fire in the chimenea.
The windows in this cabin bring the outside in and there are many. We love to think of them as our art because of the tremendous beauty surrounding the home. Enjoy the vaulted great room with a stone fireplace and gas logs plus comfortable seating.
The fully equipped kitchen has plenty of room for all to gather to cook a favorite meal. Coffee bar with coffee and tea are complementary. Dining area table can comfortably seat 6 and has additional seating for two at the peninsula.
Three bedrooms are located on the ground level. The large primary bedroom has a queen bed, full bath, seating area, coffee bar, access to the deck and plenty of space to put in a pack ‘n play for small children. On the other side of the hall are two comfortable bedrooms with a full jack and jill bathroom. One bedroom has a queen bed and the other a daybed. The closed in loft provides a roomy retreat with a queen bed and full bath.
Roku streaming tv’s are located in the great room and one in the ground level bedroom. Wireless internet works well throughout the cabin.
Outdoor adventures are just outside the door or a short drive. Venture down to the community access to the river for fishing, swimming, kayaking, canoeing or tubing. Walk or drive down for a picnic. The neighborhood provides great walking to the river and community gazebo. We are in the mountains so the hills provide great exercise but you can also access these by car if you prefer.
From the cabin, it’s a short drive to many hiking trails including Mt Jefferson, New River State Park, Doughton Park, which is off the Blue Ridge Parkway and Grayson Highlands State park in VA which is known for their wild ponies. Maybe you will see one! It’s a 5 minute drive to New River State Park-Kings access and Riverside Canoes is just across the street, available for your float down the river. You can also enjoy horseback riding, bike riding on VA Creeper trail or New River trail plus gem mining, local wineries and fishing. Plenty of activities for all.
West Jefferson is only a 20 minute drive and has plenty of shopping in the historic town including Ashe County Cheese plus grocery shopping, farmers market and restaurants. Enjoy classic car cruise-in on the third Saturday of the month April through October. Sparta is also 20 minutes away with quaint shopping and grocery. The Boone/Blowing Rock area is an hour away and offers dining, local shops plus Tanger Outlets, skiing, zip-lines, Tweetsie Railroad amusement park and of course home to Appalachian State University.

Great location and amenities. The main floor is on the 2nd floor which wasn’t the best for grandma with the stairs. But we really enjoyed the home and the location overall
Very nice place to stay. Very clean and neatly organized. Beautiful view from every window you look out. I would recommend this place to anyone that wants to get away for a while.
The House was great! Clean and beautiful in a beautiful area. Also, the kitchen was well-stocked with dishes, spices, pots/pans, etc. Better than any place we've ever stayed.
The TV was easy to use and everything else worked great as well.
Thanks for a great place to stay for a very special Thanksgiving!
Beautiful home. So peaceful. Thoughtful host who thought of everything to make your stay a relaxing stress free time.
Only issue....wish we could of stayed longer!
The house was very clean. Kitchen was well supplied with kitchen cookware and utensils.
We had a great time. Sitting on the porch in the rocking chairs watching the kayaks and canoes go by. Access to the river gave us the opportunity to do a little fishing. I would definitely recommend and go back to this house.
We loved our stay here! It was clean, stunning, and perfect for our family to gather! It was nice to have multiple sleeping options since we had two children under 2! The fully stocked kitchen was very helpful as well as the large rooms and plenty of restrooms! And you can’t forget the beautiful decks! Hosts are very responsive and gracious! We hope to stay again!
Had a great weekend in the area. Google maps is a little spotty getting to address, it was try to send us around back of neighborhood, so rely on written directions. Also gate buttons need to be firmly pressed to register. Other than that property was nice and very clean.
Sometimes you just wanna disconnect. We were looking to get away for the weekend with little interruptions. This house gave us that. You will feel like you are in a tree house. Your view is of the new river and surrounding mountains. Go fishing, hiking, or check out what Ashe county has to offer. Regardless of how you choose to spend your day, you will leave refreshed and rejuvenated. House is beautiful, clean, and very private. Hosts are very helpful. Will definitely be back.
Very peaceful area. The house was very clean and looks exactly like pictures shown online. This rental is more for older adults or couples. It is kid friendly but not much for younger kids/teenagers to do in the area. You can ride down to the river but no access to the water.A lot of bedroom space, but bring extra TV’s if you are a bedroom TV watcher. The house is at the top of a mountain so definitely get what you need before you go the nearest store/attractions are 30-45 minutes away and the drive up and down can be time consuming due to country mountains roads. Not a bad place just to clear your mind and relax!
David and Lynn were very responsive to all my questions. The house is set up great with lots of touches that you don’t find at most rentals. The kitchen has just amount everything you could want. The beds are very comfortable and super hot water in the showers. Our stay was just want we needed to escape the South Georgia heat!!
Overall everything was great, met with the owners as well and they were lovely. Only bad thing is our stay wasn't long enough. The locale right on the mountainside was great, not hard to find although google maps did take us a dead end way on the ride up but it was quickly rectified. The cabin itself was clean and in a good area but not too far away from necessities. Wondeful trip all around.

Disappointed
No cable or satellite tv couldn’t watch college football. Community clubhouse burned to the ground. Swimming pool closed. Isolated location not close to restaurants and stores. I would not stay there again.
I was fortunate to find availability for this beautiful cabin for Thanksgiving as late as I did. I only wish it had been available longer than two nights! I didn't hear from the owner before our stay, but the check-in instructions were clear, and the house was ready for us with a welcoming basket of snacks, including dog treats 🐾 and coffee/tea bar with a wide range of options. The space was perfect for our family, with space to gather together indoors and outside on the main level and privacy on the lower level and loft master with spectacular views. Thanksgiving day we watched the sunrise from bed, had coffee on the deck, made breakfast in the well equipped kitchen, then walked down the (steep) road to the river. We prepped dinner, watched football, sat by the chiminea, played games, and generally had a wonderful time together. Only wish
