Dog-friendly warm cottage in a beautiful remote location
No mobile phone signal which caused problems when we found the local Inn did not have the key to the property. Eventually managed to contact the owner who was very helpful using WiFi calling via the Inn's WiFi.
Property as described except for no landline phone and the garage was not usable due to renovation materials stored there. We had been informed that one en-suite was unusable and received a 10% discount.
The owner helpfully agreed for us to charge our EV from a 13 amp socket which avoided the hassle of driving miles to the very small number of fast chargers in N. Yorkshire. However, the payment process has still to be decided.
Nevertheless we had a lovely holiday and enjoyed some beautiful dog walks with surprisingly good weather.
Excellent for a groups of friends that travel together

Crown Gardens was an excellent choice of accommodation in an excellent location.
Crown Gardens was an excellent choice of accommodation in an excellent location. The area is beautiful with many walks for dogs (and humans). Rosedale Abbey has a pub and restaurant (Coach House Inn) plus a shop and two tea rooms; not much but all you need. Pickering with far more amenities is only about 10 miles away and easy to drive to.
The cottage was very comfortable and well appointed. The weather turned mid-week but we all remained cosy & warm. It was very nice to have an en-suite in every bedroom, no fighting over the bathroom.
We ate three times at the Coach House Inn which observed all of the necessary Covid precautions. The food was very good and portions generous. I can recommend the Desperate Dan pie and the Scampi. Also dog friendly. We also ate at the Butchers Arms in nearby Lastingham, also good food and Covid safe, but not dog friendly.
Beaches are not far away, Cayton Bay was especially nice for our dog as no seasonal restrictions on dog access. Robin Hood's Bay, Whitby etc all within easy reach (Robin Hood's Bay was very popular so parking an issue); plus the North Yorks scenery.
We found that the TV reception virtually disappeared during wet and windy weather. Perhaps if visiting in autumn/winter have a laptop and a HDMI cable - ask the owner permission to plug into the TV or set box - and watch iPlayer or similar as the internet seemed unaffected by the weather.
We were a bit worried about Covid but the owner had obviously done everything possible as we are all still OK over a week later; although between kitchen and range was dusty with a cobweb or two (not reassuring in a Covid clean environment).
We would definitely stay again.

Excellent location, comfortable and well appointed property.
Excellent location, comfortable and well appointed property. We would recommend it to others and would use it again.
The only challenge we encountered was with parking - its a large property so we had 2 cars and used the garage and drive, but space was limited and with walkers parking opposite the drive getting in and out was a challenge at times.
That's not the fault of the property, but needs to be considered by anyone who might be hiring in future.
Thanks to the owners who were very helpful.
We had a great time.

Lovely location - very peaceful.
Lovely location - very peaceful. Having multiple bathrooms was a luxury, and constant hot water from the aga, which also supplied a cosiness to the property. Beautiful view of moor from back of property. Conveniently placed for excursions.

Great points:
- great location for exploring the moors

- good water pressure in bathrooms
- lovely views
- well equipped kitchen
- toasty and warm at all times
- homely feel
- owners very helpful and knowledgeable about local area
- cosy living room & great for bird watchers!
- coach inn quiz was fun & staff were friendly
Areas for improvement:
- cobwebs/spider webs between kitchen and range
- one of the dining chairs has a broken back support
- recycling hadn't been collected from previous guests & we didn't have much room for more
- would have appreciated a little more fridge space
It's worth noting that absolutely none of the above spoiled the experience in any way and we would definitely stay again. A beautiful house in a beautiful location.

Overall a lovely time had by all, the local pub the coach house inn serves excellent home cooked food we ate there 3 times and you can easily walk to it! Downsides, sofas in lounge not comfortable, dining table and chairs are made from metal and chairs extremely heavy to lift and need new seat cushions. The bathrooms were all very tired, the en-suite in the room we stayed in was very disappointing due to the sealant being mouldy, to replace this wouldn’t take long or cost much but would considerably improve its look! Likewise for the flooring, is a wooden laminate which isn’t wearing well with the water from the shower! Carpet in the small bedrooms bathroom too, very u hygienic!! Beds extremely comfortable and great sleep had all round! Some instructions for the appliances would be useful as the information book I think had been there since the first booking and didn’t really contain anything useful!

We had a lovely week in Rosedale Abbey, the house was in a good location only a short walk to the local pub and Graze on the green. We were a short drive from Whitby and the coast and within easy reach of other visitor attractions. I would definitely visit again.
