I booked for a private room and received confirmation and when I arrived they said they were fully booked. I had the money still taken from my account. I can’t find a contact number and would need a refund.

G'day Dominique, As I have already explained to you, we have not received any money from you. I have once again just checked our bank account and there is no money from you. So if you're missing money it will be with Expedia and you'll have to contact them. Again, sorry for the inconvenience. Take care, Vaughan

Run-down hostel with potential to be amazing
This hostel has so so so much potential to be the coolest hostel ever. Bright decorations, backyard patio area, friendly staff, and great location. The beds were decently comfortable, no complaints there. However the hostel is in disrepair - the paint is chipping, peeling, and in terrible condition (walls, floors, baseboards, etc). Some of the bathrooms are terribly ugly and need mending. One bathroom had weird black patches (mold?) on ceiling. I’m not asking for a fancy renovation - just saying that some money spent on paint, new carpet to fix all the ripped carpet (stairs and in room), and fix up the kitchen - it looks so grungy. None of these repairs seem out of reach. Would not stay again because it felt gross to be there. Sorry. Would give this hostel 10/10 otherwise but because of the weird state of things, I give it 3/10.

I'm unable to tell who this is. Cheers for staying with us. We feel your comments are pretty harsh. I've never heard anyone refer to Pirates as gross. Very much the opposite in fact. Anyway, all the best. Vaughan

Unique ?? That’s definitely not a word I would use - no one hardly speaks English - - $60 a night for a cell sized , dirty stained mattresses and my window is missing the top glass panel- so tape holds it together - the floors squeak really bad you feel like you’re going to fall through - not one light down the private room hallway - People were okay - it’s just way over due for a refurbishment !!! Good trying tho - looks better inside than out !

Unfortunately your review is anonymous, so I don't know who I am responding to. I'm not sure what your experience level is at hostels, but most are for international travellers. Hence you would have heard a variety of languages spoken. But there is still great communication in English going on between everyone. The room is your normal size private for a hostel and meets the required health regulations. It's a wooden floor with a carpet overlay, so naturally there is a little bit of creeking but pretty minimal. As for the hallway light, there's a switch at both ends that run on a timer. But in any event, there's still light coming through. We're a very small and homely hostel with amazing activities unlike any other hostel, so we are unique. Unfortunately you seemed to have missed that experience which is a shame. Take care, Regards, Vaughan

8/10 Good

Stephanie

The hostel was located in a nice place. Staff very friendly. Easy to meet people. The only annoying thing is the bed bed bunk! The bed moves when you or the other person the whole bed move ! Terrible! The bed himself was good! I had the 8 beds dormitory a little bit too small ! No easy to find a space for my stuff. Otherwise everything perfect. Clean in the toilette miss a mirror in one them!

G'day Stephanie, Glad you enjoyed your stay. As for the room, it's the legal size for an 8 bed dorm, in fact a little bigger. Re the actual bed, they're strong metal bed frames and I've never had someone complain about the actual bed frames before. However, I've had a look at them and they seem stable enough. Anyway, thanks for staying and enjoy the rest of your travels. Vaughan

Good location, not the nicest hostel
It was really nice temp wise outside but super hot and stuffy inside the dorm, no outlets for the top bunks so I couldn’t charge anything, kinda dirty
