Ting made sure each step of our reservation and stay went well for us we really appreciated her kindness and insight into the surroundings areas. Breakfast in the morning was just perfect plus she made extra bread for us to take on our journey that to Cradle Mountain which by the is spectacular hiking and wildlife adventure. Best wishes Ting hope to see you again soon!

Loved the property. Owner was fantastic with communication. Our only disappointment was booking a spa suite and the spa having time of use restrictions of not being able to be used between 9pm and 9am. With a check out time of 10am we didn’t have time to even use it in the morning which wasnt the point of booking a spa suite in the first place.

The property was lovely and so were the hosts. You are able to bring your dogs which i thought was very nice of them to do that. All in all a lovely property and would stay there again.

You would describe this accommodation as a modern take on a guest house with high end finishes. Rooms are immaculate, but upstairs with no lift so if you have mobility problems it may be an issue. I would say generally for couples not families. The owner, Ting, couldn't be more helpful or obliging.

The owners are so welcoming and really went above and beyond to maake sure our stay was enjoyable. I can not recommend this place enough. Beautiful accommodation and beautiful service from owners. Will definitely come back again.

Pleasant comfortable guest house.
A pleasant stay. The house is run as a guesthouse with multiple rooms (each with own bathroom and mini kitchenette). Each area is separated off from each other securely. The room was nice with a lovely view. Only criticism is that the room has blinds instead of curtains, which lets a fair bit of light in in the morning. If you're sensitive to early morning light, bring an eyemask. The bed was comfy. Bathroom was clean. Good toiletries provided. Service was friendly. The entrance from the street was a little hard to find - had to drive around a little before I found the right driveway. Overall, a good night's stay.

Madsen Retreat is lovely. Chris met us with scones, jam and cream and showed us to a lovely room. The included continental breakfast was also generous.

Madsen Retreat is very clean and a short walk into town. Owners Chris & Ting are very friendly with a lot of local knowledge & only too happy to help with any questions. Penguin is also a short drive from Devonport and is convenient for day trips. Having Netflix to unwind after day tours & dinner was a great bonus. Thank you Chris & Ting for a wonderful relaxing stay.

The accommodation was well appointed with good quality furnishings. However I really dislike the many notices in the room .... rules and regulations do not make for a relaxing environment.

We are sorry you dislike the fact that we publish certain rules that we bring guests attention to when they check in. We explain to every new guest our reasons for this. The guest house rules are written politely and ask guests to treat the place as if it was their own. We let guests know that if they damage our property we will be entitled to claim the cost on their credit card. We ask guests to turn off lights when not needed. 99% of our guests tell us that they totally understand why we do this and have no issue with it all. Our guest book is filled with complimentary comments from these satisfied guests. We are sorry it did not work well for you, but we will continue to bring these rules to peoples attention.

Burnie was the last stop of my work trip in Tassie and I’m very glad that I found this place. Nice view, Comfortable bed nice pillows good quality towels...It’s like a home away from home- you’ve got everything you need here, even Netflix! There are a few places to eat just a short stroll away. I went to the pizza and tapas bar and had seafood chowder there, was really nice. Would be a really great option for family travelling together too .

I assumed that this property was divided into units each with individual access. It’s actually a house (entering into the lounge and kitchen) but each wing is lockable so it’s fine, Just not what I expected. Very clean, very nice. Would happily stay again

We chose Madsen Retreat to spend a few days away. We expected to enjoy a beautiful place to stay but we ended up experiencing so much more. Chris, the host, made us feel at home. We enjoyed the stunning music choice (including vinyls of exceptional sound quality) the warmth of the wood heater in the shared space, the perfect design and comfort of the retreat. Most importantly, a big thank you to Chris for the warm welcome, the great conversations, the easy communication before, during and after our stay, the extra step for sending me the pair of jeans I had forgotten (!) and ultimately the generosity for sharing your place, your time and your knowledge. We warmly recommend Madsen Retreat :)

Excellent property. Large room and other areas to relax in. The owner Chris was very helpful. Would recommend this property for those wanting the quiet of the north coast area of Tasmania without being in Devonport. Excellent eating options in town.

Good: Nice room with big windows. Water pressure in shower was awesome. Nice choices (pay) of food & Snacks. Continental breakfast was convenient. Host friendly and open to sharing the dining room and sunroom space. Good outlets and lights by bed. Quiet and safe area. Short walk to the beach. Areas to Improve: Host was very particular about how the property was to be maintained and used, with lists/rules posted. This was off-putting even tho' I am normally a very neat person. I felt I had to be so careful that I did not enjoy my stay as much as I would have otherwise. Yogurt would have been nice option with the continental breakfast. Felt the price was a bit high for what was provided.

Thank you very much for your review. We ask all incoming guests to read and accept our guesthouse rules because regrettably about 1% of guests do not respect our property and leave damaged items or stained towels. Whilst we leave a copy of the rules in each room some don't bother to read them. Since we started having everyone read the rules on check in we have not experienced any problems like we did before. Pricing is based on our offical accreditation as 4 star accommodation and comparative market prices for similar quality. As your review is anonymous we cannot identify who you are but we firmly believe that our prices are in fact substantially discounted at present.
