Which area of Passau is best to stay in for pet-friendly hotels?
The best area to stay in Passau for pet-friendly hotels is the Old Town, particularly around the Innstadt and the areas near the confluence of the rivers.

The Old Town is the historic heart of Passau, situated on a narrow peninsula between the Danube and Inn rivers. It's characterised by its winding cobblestone streets, Baroque architecture, and stunning views of the three rivers (Danube, Inn, and Ilz). You'll find many hotels here that cater to guests with pets, often offering amenities like water bowls or designated walking areas nearby. The area around St. Stephen's Cathedral is particularly central, and walking along the banks of the Inn river towards the Dreiflüssestadt (Three Rivers City) viewpoint is a popular activity for dog owners.

Couples travelling with a pet will find the Old Town very convenient. Many of the city's main attractions, such as the Veste Oberhaus fortress (accessible via a pleasant uphill walk or a short bus ride) and the various river cruises, are easily reachable. The numerous riverside paths offer plenty of opportunities for dog walks, and many outdoor cafe terraces are welcoming to well-behaved pets.

For those who appreciate a relaxed pace and scenic walks with their furry companion, the Innstadt district, just across the Inn River from the main Old Town, is also a good option. It's a quieter, more residential part of the city but still very central and accessible by footbridges.

For a pet-friendly trip to Passau, you'll find plenty to enjoy, particularly along the scenic riverfronts and in the city's green spaces.

Exploring the confluence of the three rivers (Danube, Inn, and Ilz) is a must, and it's something you can easily do with your dog. Start at the "Dreiflüssestadt" viewpoint where the rivers meet near Ortspitze, offering lovely walks along the banks. There are paved paths suitable for a leisurely stroll, and your dog will enjoy the open space.

Another excellent option for you and your pet is a boat trip on the Danube or Inn rivers. Several local operators offer scenic cruises where well-behaved dogs are often welcome on board, usually for a small fee or even free of charge. It's a relaxing way to see the city from a different perspective, taking in the Veste Oberhaus fortress and the picturesque old town.

For more active pets and their owners, the nature trails along the Ilz River, particularly in the area known as the Ilzschleife (Ilz Loop), provide beautiful hiking opportunities.
