"None of the listed amenities actually exist. No pool. No spa. Horrible location way out on the edge of town. On the positive side, the girl at the front desk was very helpful. "At check in, they kept insisting we have not paid for our room!, we had to show her our cc statement that it’s paid for. They won’t give us a room with a view, even though we were the only people staying there. We had to keep our curtains closed throughout as it was directly to an open top of the next building. At checkout, we were asked to pay for our room again! On our insistence, they let us go, as I said’ we paid for our room when we booked! Nice hotel, but the insisting that we have not...

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Páo Máo Phìn?
The best area to stay in Páo Máo Phìn is the central village area, particularly around the main market square and the road leading up to it.

This central area is the heart of Páo Máo Phìn, offering the most convenience for travellers. You'll find a concentration of guesthouses, local eateries, and small shops here. The roads are generally well-maintained, making it easy to get around on foot. The market square itself is a focal point for daily life and local interactions.

For couples looking for a comfortable and convenient base, staying close to the market square is ideal. It provides easy access to local cuisine, opportunities to observe daily life, and a central point for arranging treks or visits to nearby villages. Many guesthouses in this area also offer views of the surrounding hills.

Travellers seeking a more secluded experience, perhaps with a focus on hiking and nature, might consider guesthouses a little further out, on the paths leading towards the rice terraces.
When is the best time to go to Páo Máo Phìn?
The best time to visit Páo Máo Phìn is during the dry season, which runs from October to April.

This period offers pleasant weather, with less humidity and a lower chance of rain, making it ideal for exploring the region's stunning landscapes and engaging in outdoor activities. Temperatures are generally mild, especially from October to December, and again in March and April, which is great for trekking and enjoying the mountain views.

Couples looking for a romantic getaway will find October and November particularly appealing. The rice terraces are often golden brown after the harvest, creating a beautiful backdrop for walks and photography, and the cooler, drier air makes evenings comfortable for dining and relaxation.

For solo travellers interested in hiking and cultural experiences, January and February can be a good choice. While it's cooler, and occasionally misty, these months offer a unique, quiet beauty, and the chance to witness local festivals. However, it's worth noting that it can get quite chilly, so packing warm layers is essential.
