Can Pastilla

Hop off your plane and reach the beach in minutes in this smaller Majorca town not far from busier Palma.

Can Pastilla has been a popular resort spot for decades. Visit its 2.8-mile-long (4.5-kilometer) beach, starting at Platja de Can Pastilla. Enjoy windsurfing on this western end or visit Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa Marina to view hundreds of boats tightly moored or heading out to sea. Cross a spit of land to reach Cala Estancia, a protected inlet with calm water and a long shallow wade toward the ocean.

Walk southeast along Badia de Palma and gaze at tall resort hotels lining the waterfront. Reach Les Meravelles or El Arenal for lunch. Alternatively, rent a bike to ride along the promenade. Biking is quite popular in the area.

Spend delightful hours at the Palma Aquarium. Take a guided tour of the 3-acre (12,000-square-meter) space to see some of the 8,000 animals in its giant saltwater tanks. Learn about sharks, jellyfish and other marine animals as you view activities of the 700 species on site. Dive for an hour with powerful sea creatures in the large shark pool or leave your kids for an overnight stay camped in front of the Big Blue shark tank. The park-like space also has a Mediterranean garden, a jungle and pirate ship, kiddie play areas, restaurants and a gift shop.

Peek into the Parròquia de Sant Antoni de la Platja church. As you walk around the city, take your kids to a playground in one of Can Pastilla’s parks. Several areas offer shady trees, walking paths and seasonal plantings.

Make a shopping or dining outing to nearby Palma. Rent a car to explore inland Majorca. Enjoy ancient villages, olive groves and good wine and food.

Palma de Majorca Airport, Majorca’s main airport, is just minutes north of Can Pastilla, making access very convenient. Take a taxi or bus to the town and walk or bike leisurely between your accommodations and the beach. Watch planes taking off and landing at the airport and speculate about where the visiting tourists are from.
