TRAINS & TRUCKS TRAFFIC NOISE & VIBRATIONS: Post Offices of course were traditionally always built on main roads, which have oftentimes over the past century turned into main highways. Being on the corner of Ōwhango Rd and State Highway 4, there is traffic noise, so anyone who is a light sleeper may wish to bring ear-plugs (plus we supply some disposable ones free of charge in the blue kitchen's pantry). Also, because Ōwhango is all built on volcanic pumice rock, the entire Village vibrates when trains pass through (and it has done for more than a century). Many guests love the sound and vibration of the trains passing ... like being part of your own 1920s Agatha Christie novel! We do hope you will all enjoy embracing this authentically Owhango experience! 😊

For a group of "young" seniors it was perfect. Comfy beds, well fitted out kitchen and no TV.........great. Various walks in the area depending on how energetic one felt at the time.
A really good place to relax
Our stay was amazing, although the road noise in the two front rooms where annoying I guess it's only until the road is opened again on state highway 1. The venue was lovely and we all enjoyed the 1920s theme, we even dressed in period clothing for dinner on the sat night. The house was well set up with everything we needed, and close to visiting the mountain. I would recommend this venue, especially for large groups.

This property is absolutely amazing inside. The attention to detail with the restoration and decor is fantastic. It is spotless and has everything you need - with the added bonus of a spa, sauna, and firepit. The only downside is that it's on a main road and when the trucks go past, the house literally shakes. It's a shame that the speed limit is 70 instead of down to 50kms/h. The hosts are great and responsive. My teenagers loved the quirkiness. There is a lot to do in the area and just behind Owhango - the Ohinetonga Scenic Reserve is gorgeous with a safe swimming spot on the river.
