We loved this place in Ollantaytambo. Our items were picked up by the hosts free of charge at the train station and we explored on foot until we arrived at the home later in the day. The home is spacious and well maintained with a large patio and great views of the city. Catta was flexible with our needs and held our bags until we left Ollantaytambo in the late afternoon. I would highly recommend the stay to any group of friends or family visiting!

Our stay in Ollantaytambo was sadly blighted by the property's host. First, the day before arrival, we had to chase up check-in instructions and ended up in WhatsApp communication with the host. She stopped answering, however, and it turned out that she had made duplicate bookings for the premises. Given her silence, we had to involve Expedia, who eventually arranged for our stay to start one day late, without any apology from the host. When it came to pay, there was no reduction for the inconvenience caused, in addition to which the host asked for a 6 percent surcharge for card payment, even though the PayPal merchant charge was only 2.99 percent (which she waived when challenged). Also, during the stay, on two occasions the host bothered us: one time messaging us at 8am to ask that we let in her cleaner to collect some sheets, and on another occasion when we had explicitly asked not to be disturbed because of illness, again asking for access, to collect stored luggage because her cleaner had lost her key.
The property itself is well located, albeit these was loud music from neighbours on two nights. The main problem is with the showers: the hot water temperature is set far too high and the taps have less than a quarter turn of adjustment, and it's impossible to achieve a consistent temperature. The risk of scalding would be too high to allow young children to use the showers alone.
We would never stay here again and would not recommend this host.
My stay at The Dona Catta in was very pleasant and I’d highly recommend a stay here.
The room and en suite were very comfortable clean and pleasantly decorated and the hotel lounge and kitchen area were also very pleasant spaces to spend time in.
The hotel location was very good – it was near enough to Ollantaytambo main square and ruins to be convenient (few mins walk) but not close enough that noise was a problem.
I was made to feel at home during my stay with the hotel owner Catta and her family being extremely friendly and helpful in taking care of my needs and also sharing their local knowledge and advising on the local attractions – they were also very pleasant to converse with.
Ollantaytambo itself was also a beautiful and peaceful location for a stay being extremely pleasant with a substantial local ruin site next to it and with beautiful views of the Sacred Valley.
The property was conveniently located. Catty and her son were friendly and helpful. I stayed the night before the Peruvian borders were closing and the staff helped me to secure a taxi to the airport last minute. Breakfast consisted of eggs, ham, cheese, bread, jam and butter, fruit, coffee and tea. The room was a little loud and cold; however a space heater was provided and the blankets were sufficiently warm.
Dona Catta is close to Ollantaytambo historic sites and markets. The property is clean and well maintained; staff is helpful and friendly. Being close to the action, the street noise can be a bit loud at times. Otherwise, it’s convenient and comfortable.
Great place, close to everything you need, friendly reception, extremely responsive personnel, heaters, hot breakfast, WiFi. Luggage storage area is available before check in and after check our.The only issue we had - very firm bed.
Front receptionist made us pay at checkin and added $5 for using a card, not happy about that. No hot water in sinks. Hot water in showers but lady told us not to take too long in showers.
El Hotel está bastante bien, y la dueña muy atenta y dispuesta a ayudarnos en todo lo que le pedíamos. La situación del hotel bastante buena, cerca de la plaza del pueblo y cerca de las ruinas de Ollantaytambo.
Recomendado
This place is perfectly suitable for a lay over night in Ollantaytambo. If arriving at night note it is off the main road over the bridge and not well signed. Only working ATM in town is a Global Net, ie: exchange rate nightmare. Clean, friendly, loud in the mornings, basic.
Dona Cotta was an awesome hotel, located right down the street from the square and also a street from the train station, making our trip to Machu Picchu seamless. Renato, was extremely accommodating and gave us great suggestions for things to do during our short stay in Ollantaytambo. The room was clean and well kept during our stay. We'll definitely be staying again!
Last minute notice as we are checking out that they can’t take visa or credit because their system is down. However, the actual truth from a hotel staff it’s been down for three months or so. Room is noisy if your by the street level as the windows are single pane. No hot water in the sink to wash your face. Breakfast was basic. Hotel felt more like a hostel . Disappointed compared to other hotels we stayed in Peru.
The staff was very friendly and helpful and the location was great, near to the central square and several good restaurants. Furnishings were basic and the WiFi was pretty strong. The breakfast was fruit, juice, eggs (scrambled or fried), bread and jam, and coffee or tea. They also supplied plenty of water and coca leaves to help with the elevation. We stayed for 5 nights and explored the Sacred Valley sights. Ollantaytambo was a nice town to use as a home base.
