The best area to stay in Obersetzen is the Old Town (Altstadt), particularly around Marktplatz and Hauptstraße.

This central area is the heart of Obersetzen, characterized by its well-preserved medieval architecture, cobblestone streets, and a relaxed, welcoming feel. Marktplatz is the main square, often hosting local markets, and Hauptstraße is the primary street for independent shops, cafes, and traditional German restaurants. It's very walkable, allowing you to easily explore the town's historic buildings and local businesses.

Couples looking for a romantic and authentic German experience will find the Old Town ideal. You can enjoy strolls along the river, dine in cosy restaurants, and visit local attractions like the Obersetzen Castle ruins, which offer lovely views over the town. The evening atmosphere here is pleasant, with many establishments offering outdoor seating when the weather is good.

For travellers who appreciate quiet surroundings and easy access to nature, the areas just outside the Old Town, particularly towards the Obersetzen Forest, are excellent. Here, you'll find hotels and guesthouses that offer a more peaceful setting, often with gardens or balconies.

The best time to go to Obersetzen is during the spring and autumn months, specifically from May to June and September to October.

These periods offer pleasant weather, making it ideal for outdoor activities and exploring the region comfortably. You'll find fewer crowds compared to the peak summer months, allowing for a more relaxed and enjoyable experience. The landscapes during these seasons are particularly appealing, with blooming flowers in spring and rich autumnal colours.

For those who enjoy hiking and cycling, spring offers mild temperatures and fresh greenery, superb for exploring the trails around the Rothaar Mountains. Many local events and festivals also take place during these months, providing a chance to experience local culture without the intense summer heat.

If you're interested in winter sports, December to February can be a good time, although Obersetzen itself isn't a major ski destination.
