Lovely cottage, lovely area.
Lovely cottage, lovely area. Very well equipped. Nicely decorated , thoughtful welcome pack and fresh garden flowers. Beds comfortable. Loved the fully equipped kitchen and laundry room.Downsides. Cobwebs everywhere. Boiler made horrendous noise. Towels not wonderful. Windows need cleaning. Dust on back of toilet doors. House would be tremendous after a deep clean and patio tidied up with a little weeding

Very nice property but starting to look a little bit tired now; no real problems, just minor things that stop it from getting full marks e.g. the handle to the main door dropped off. If you like peace and quite, it's a great option although there aren't a lot of facilities in Thimbleby itself.
The Old Reading Room has a good foosball table - take plenty of 50p pieces if you want to play.

The Old Reading Room is a charming conversion in a very small village.
The Old Reading Room is a charming conversion in a very small village. It is well placed for walking the North Yorkshire Moors and within easy reach of coastal or Yorkshire attractions by car. A drive into Northallerton is necessary to get provisions but the neighbouring village of Osmotherley has several pubs, a fish and chip shop and a small general store. The house itself is generally very comfortable with a great kitchen/living area. The wood burner is great on a cold evening and belts out the heat, and the Aga provides a cosy warmth during the day. The patio area is larrge and great for alfresco eating with a lovely view of the garden. The small bedroom and bed is more suitable for a child and the mattress was uncomfortable. The ensuite would benefit from a proper shower and the main bathroom needs a new shower. Overall, a lovely stay for us all.

We loved the Old Reading Room - exactly the venue we wanted for a family weekend away.
We loved the Old Reading Room - exactly the venue we wanted for a family weekend away. Well appointed and comfortable - we would definitely recommend and would stay there again. Only slight niggle was that some of the cleaning could be better - there obviously hadn't been a hoover under the bed for a while - or it would have picked up the socks that someone had left there !

A large number (~20) bulbs were blown and the property is quite dark in places, although well equipped (could do with a non-stick frying pan). The house instructions could do with updating, for example the advertised incoming only phone is not there. The property, at which we have stayed several times over a number of years needs some TLC. For example the gates into the garden are rotting and the door to the courtyard sticks. The TV instructions could be more than just a scribbled note! It was nice that there were some provisions provided to start with. The en-suite bath plug was not connected to chain or bath and it was difficult to get the plug out after a bath. Great property and location for the North Yorkshire Moors and surrounding area.

We loved it there .
We loved it there . Beautiful accommodation. Only problem is aga makes house very hot and there were lots of flies ( but you are in the country ) so worth taking something for that . Patio area needs some attention gardening wise but garden itself is beautiful, fantastic views . Would highly recommend this property xxx

What an amazing place with lots of space … the house was light and airy and has some lovely features … a few things need updating though like the tv and freeview box for when the weather is bad … we invested £5.99 on an ethernet cable (Amazon Prime) so we could enjoy some boxsets on iPlayer when it rained. The peacocks, bunnies, hedgehog and chicken were a lovely distraction … we bought some food for all and enjoyed them visiting the garden. It was also lovely to see the cows in the next field. All in all it was a wonderful, restful week :)

Fabulous cottage.
Fabulous cottage. A real home from home. Aga kept us cosy and was easy to use. Nice to have a log stove as we were unfortunate with the weather. Very comfortable and well appointed.
