The best area to stay in Newport is generally the area around Thames Street and Bellevue Avenue, which offers a blend of historic charm and easy access to key attractions.

This central area is the heart of Newport's activity. Thames Street runs parallel to the harbour, lined with shops, restaurants, and art galleries, while Bellevue Avenue is famous for its historic mansions and the Cliff Walk. You'll find many of Newport's iconic landmarks within walking distance or a short drive.

For couples looking for a romantic getaway, staying near Bellevue Avenue provides access to the grand Gilded Age mansions like The Breakers and Marble House, great for leisurely tours. The Cliff Walk, offering stunning ocean views, is also easily accessible. Many hotels in this area offer a more refined and private experience.

Families will find the Thames Street area particularly convenient. It's very walkable, with plenty of casual dining options and shops to explore. The proximity to the harbour means easy access to boat tours and other water-based activities that children often enjoy.

The best time to go to Newport is during the summer months, from June to August, when the weather is warm and sunny, and the city is at its most active.

During this period, you can enjoy all the outdoor activities Newport has to offer, from sailing and beach visits to exploring the Cliff Walk. The historic mansions, like The Breakers and Marble House, are open for tours, and many events and festivals are held, including the famous Newport Folk and Jazz Festivals. Couples often find this a particularly good time for a romantic getaway, with opportunities for scenic drives, waterfront dining, and strolls through the historic downtown.

For those looking for a slightly quieter experience with pleasant weather and fewer crowds, the shoulder seasons of May and September are also excellent choices. The temperatures are still comfortable, and most attractions remain open.
