"This was a very old historical building in as good of a shape as it could be. Some uneven floors and a lot of steps to get to your room. It was small and quiet charming. The staff was pleasant and helpful. A bus stop was right out the side. Very pleasant. The bed was nice, no air conditioning, but it was fairly cool when we went in August, 2026. They had a fan. We are from Florida so the low 70's was a joy for us for August."

"Great location,room was lovely and clean but access to the ensuit across a corridor not expected although again very clean ,unfortunately no catering available at this hotel although staff were very helpful in advising on realy good local cafes and restaurants, in general very good value for money."

"It was a good place for my American visitors to spend their first night in the UK. A traditional pub in a very attractive town. Dinner and breakfast were good. We found the parking area at the back of Morrisons. A bit tight but after some back and forth I managed to wedge the car in and didn't block anyone else."

"The couple that are the land lords are so helpful ,friendly accommodating. The food was fabulous very fresh produce the breakfast was amazing. The bedding was crisp white bedding and the towels were so fluffy . Parking was great and the little hamlet was so peaceful and the veiws were amazing. Very busy when we got there at around 4.30 pm Sunday afternoon. The food stopped serving at 6pm . Everyone was so friendly in the pub ."

So if we go again we have sorted out which room we would stay in for minimal steps. The staff couldn't be more helpful. The building is built into a hillside, its old and very pretty. The location is amazing."

"The staff were lovely, breakfast great and easy parking outside on the road, less than a minutes walk. The dogs were well catered for. Only the bed was a bit soft for our taste, but would stay again as we did this time as part of an en-route journey north. Just wish we’d arrived in time for dinner as the food looked and smelled delicious. A really well run nice small hotel. And if you are looking for a short walk from the property there’s the walk to Appleby castle which was great to be able to do in the morning with the dogs before heading off in the car. Thank you!"
