Velvet ropes meet cobblestone streets at the Meatpacking District, a ritzy hub for fine dining and high-end nightlife.

The Meatpacking District might owe its name to the neighbourhood’s old butcheries and meat warehouses, but now it’s renowned as a lifestyle destination. Spend the day strolling cobblestone streets and exploring the many cafés, boutiques and trendy galleries. By night, these thoroughfares transform as the chic restaurants and nightclubs open their doors to the public – or, at least, some of it. For a different sort of cultural experience, check out some American classics at the recently relocated Whitney Museum of American Art.
