They no longer use le labo candles and the distinct “Gramercy smell” is gone.
Now it seems like just an older hotel.
Also, the peloton cycle could not connect to the internet so could not be used one of the days I was there.
Location was great also restaurants in the area were very good but staff at hotel were the best we will be back soon.

The hotel is unique and the dark, old feel of the place charming. It was an ideal winter hotel in many ways. The location could not be better. That said, it is an old hotel -- the heating was uncomfortable -- noisy, too hot, too hard to control -- the internet was spotty at best, the bathroom cramped and old. Some basic amenities that one finds in newer high-end hotels like a kettle or Nespresso are not there. While it was a nice stay, I doubt I would return.
Disappointed that as a guest you didn’t have any privileges to the bar on-site. It was a $1000 table min to enter

Check in and taking a lift up were all like in a cave, very dark. Well, those are the uniqueness, which I do not like. Room service (breakfast) were late, need to call and urge them to provide food. Other than these, just a normal hotel.

It was very small and the shower didn’t work properly. For $400/night it was also not sanitary.

One of the rooms they put us in smelled like it had a cigar convention in it right before we got there. The bar tar staff and bar tenders were not very friendly or inviting. Neat old building and cool location, but the rest ruined it.
Beautiful room, great service, wonderful restaurant and bar, excellent location.

Beautiful property but A/C heating unit started screeching at 6 in the morning Sunday. They sent a maintenance man up quickly. All he could do was shut it off completely
Such a great classic NYC icon. Loved our stay! Having moved away from this great city 10 years ago it was fun to come back and experience some of the “must dos” we had been recommending to friends for years.
The location is obviously ideal. Park access is lovely. Concierge Joy is very nice. The Bartender in Jade was more concentrated on chatting with friends at the end of the bar. Our cocktails were inexplicably tasteless, watered down & lukewarm. When the bill came it was over 40.00 for two watery lukewarm drinks. It would have made us angry if we had to pay for them, but as it turned out our Expedia reservation credited them back to us at the end of the stay as part of the VIP thing. I've no idea what else the VIP thing might have included, didnt realize I booked it. We didn't return to that bar. Saw a doorman as we checked in, then not never again until 3 days later when we left. A hotel boasting 5 stars ought to be able to manage a cheerful face at the entrance to assist with cabs, etc. We are not snobs, can open our own doors, but would occasionally like assistance or to be greeted with a smile when entering the hotel. Didnt happen. Nonexistent. Needed to speak with the front desk from our room....called 4 times and couldn't get anybody to answer. Got disconnected twice. Eventually got connected to the manager who was very nice. Room was neat, tidy. Comfortable bed. Bummed about the disconnect we felt from the staff throughout our stay. Not rude, just disinterested in us. A small thing-a coffee maker of some sort in the room is always welcome for first cup. A simple french press, maybe? The amenities in the bathroom are Aesop, my favorite.
While the hotel itself is quite beautiful, the staff really ruined our experience. The management seems utterly non existent. Perhaps my expectations were high due to the price of hotel, but the staff they have at this hotel would'nt be hired at a gas station in CT let alone a nice hotel. The housekeeping was actually pretty friendly. The front desk and any phone reps all seem to have the same horrible attitude as if speaking to them is an inconvenience. I honestly can't believe anyone would hire any of the front staff at this hotel. Incredibly disappointed.
Expected a much nicer upgraded property. Didn’t feel clean. Toilet was clogged the first morning and it took 1 hour to fix. Lightbulbs went out. Ac was noisy.

There is no security. You can go in and take the elevators and go up the rooms directly. Also most people at the reception dont look happy at all. The price when all the taxes are added go up significantly. Ac/ heating very noisy.
We had high hopes for our overnight stay in NYC. We have been to the restaurant at this hotel and loved it - thought we'd try the hotel. When we got there the family checking in next to us got a warm welcome, a description of the hotel and two glasses of complimentary champagne. Our front desk agent barely made eye contact, basically threw our room keys at us and walked away. The rooms were dark and dated. The bathrooms were claustrophobic and dirty. My husband and I went to have a drink at the bar. It took almost an hour to get one drink and our bill. Really disappointing experience especially for $700 a night. Will definitely not stay there again.

The hotel and rooms looked very nice, we just had to change rooms because of finding pubes in the bathroom. They also told us at check in that they only had 1 room available, directly above the bar, and then magically another one appeared when we said no, and then another one magically appeared when we had to change rooms. I got the feeling they were trying to shaft us on our room quality, not sure why. Maybe they don't like people who book through Expedia.
Other than those things our stay was ok, we won't stay there again though.

A Hotel in Decline
Our stay at GPH fell far short of our expectations, especially in terms of customer service.
The front desk was less than friendly when we checked in. The room type that we booked was given away to other guests. While they did upgrade us, the upgraded room wasn't the type we were looking for. The front desk agent acted incredulous and even went as far as to openly blame us for not being more specific about what we wanted when we booked the room. It's pretty simple, really - we wanted the room type that we booked. Nothing more, nothing less.
The next night was going to be a romantic evening in our room. I had purchased a bottle of champagne and had requested that morning that it be put on ice at a certain time. The front desk assured me that it would be taken care of. When we returned to our room that evening, our champagne was not on ice as it was supposed to be. I called down to the front desk to put in the request again. Two and a half hours later, a bucket of ice arrived with champagne flutes. By then, the mood I was trying to set had long passed.
I know, first-world problems, right? My room was upgraded and I had to wait for chilled champagne. Boohoo. Well, for a supposedly "5-Star hotel" and the high sum of money I paid, yes, I have higher expectations. Instead, all we got was lousy service and broken promises from start to finish.
All that, without even getting to the part about the rusty shower water, loose baseboards, and water-stained curtains...

En pitänyt yllättävästä "Facility feestä" ollenkaan!
Great room! Super spacious and comfortable- and such a lovely part of town.
Super loud party underway on my last night was a bit unwanted at bedtime, otherwise flawless stay.
