"The grounds are beautiful and the facility was clean and well-kept. Staff members were pleasant. We would actually consider staying there in a different room but the white cabin with the thatched roof was awkward and uncomfortable to the point that we left after one night even though we knew we wouldn't get a refund. You can tell from the photos that some of the description is inaccurate (It's just one bedroom and doesn't have a private pool though there is one pool for all guests to share.) but here's what isn't as obvious: 1. The bedroom windows are too small for decent airflow and the small portable AC they added is too noisy to use while you're sleeping. 2. The bed has clear plastic skylights over it so there isn't really time to get a good night's sleep between when the room cools down enough and the sun comes up and wakes you up. 3. The cover for the patio is made of the same clear plastic so it doesn't really provide much shade which is a big deal since your inside space is so hot. 4. You have to leave your bedroom and walk around outside to the back of the cabin to access your bathroom and they advise you to take a flashlight so you can see any fer-de-lance snakes on your way. 5. The cabin is situated on the path for staff and other guests so, while you're sitting on your patio getting a sunburn through the plastic, people might be walking right past you. We've stayed in many quirky places in Central America that we absolutely loved but this room was not okay for us."

"The most incredible stay! We had 2 families and fit comfortably. Pool was great. Rooms stayed cool. The staff was incredible and helped with all of our questions and needs. Highly recommend this home for CR! "

"I stayed at this location for a month and left feeling rested and rejuvenated. The birdwatching from the patio was fabulous, toucans, kites, motmot, trogans as well as the endemics to the area. We heard howler monkeys daily but only saw them at the waterfall on the road up to the house. We had the capuchin monkeys in the trees at the house one day. The kitchen had everything we needed. We just had to buy ice as the ice machine couldn't keep up with our needs. The rooms are comfortable and roomy. It is a jungle so you can expect some bugs. You definitely need to keep valuables locked up even if you are at the house by the pool. We were victims of some theft from the main area that cannot be secured. Definitely tell the host as soon as you know so that she can check the cameras. We did not realize that so we lost some cash, chocolates and a water bottle but not the liquor that was on the kitchen counter. The beaches that are close are beautiful if you don't go to the main town beaches. The grocery store is within 15 min. The pool is a lovely place to end your day of adventures and watch the sunset. The water was a little cloudy early on but they treated it and we enjoyed it once it cleared up.Overall the value was great and it was such a pleasant place to enjoy family and friends."

"We stayed for a little over 4 weeks and very much enjoyed the experience. The house seemed larger than it appeared in the photos we looked at prior to arrival. Everything is modern and the kitchen was better than the average rental house - we prepared many meals while there. We enjoyed walking down to the waterfall for a swim every morning. The sunsets were absolutely spectacular. We paid extra for the cleaning crew to come several times during our stay - wonderful people who do great work, and the price was very reasonable. You do need 4WD, but it’s fun - you feel like you’re on a bit of an adventure😀 We encountered a few minor maintenance issues while we were there - the property management team always responded promptly and the people they sent to the house were friendly and professional. Regarding phone and internet service, the cell signal we got at the house was 1 bar of 3G, and the house has a fast fiber optic and wifi connection, however, the fiber optic connection was not always working (the fiber optic company’s issue, not the property managers). This is perfectly fine for a relaxed vacation but may be a challenge for anyone needing to work or join virtual meetings. We experienced no crime and always felt safe - in fact, the people we interacted with were uniformly friendly and welcoming. We had a wonderful experience and highly recommend.this property."

"A nice private location with a nice view of the ocean from the patio and the pool. The check in process was nice with the detailed driving instructions and the door lock with a code. We stayed here for 5 nights and found several nice resturants within a short drive. The pool was great to cool off in the afternoon."

"The location is nice and quiet with a nice view. It was a nice location for a family and the drive up was actually sort of fun. The map location in Vacasa actually took me to the neighbors house who was very kind to point us in the right direction. A few things could be done to make the place better including getting a new grill, the one at the house is rusted out and doesn’t work well at all and fixing the pool light. Overall its a pleasant place to stay"

"We had a wonderful stay at Odyssey Villa in Escaleras. The drive is an adventure, but once you arrive, the house and views are absolutely stunning—photos truly don’t do it justice. We previously lived in Hawaii with an ocean view and agree with other reviews that this view is somehow even more impressive, overlooking a lush green valley and Diamante Waterfall.The setting is calm and peaceful, with magical sunrises and sunsets. The infinity pool was a refreshing way to relax and take in the scenery. Our family was very comfortable, with three bedrooms each having en-suite bathrooms. The primary suite was especially memorable, with a bridge leading to a private deck and incredible views. The outdoor spaces throughout the property are exceptional.We loved seeing the resident toucans each morning. The kitchen was beautiful, well-equipped, and a pleasure to cook in while enjoying the view. While we didn’t use the private chef or on-site massage, they were great options to have.A true 4WD vehicle is essential—the hosts are very clear and correct about this. Our rental AWD struggled, but the hosts were incredibly accommodating. Roberto guided us up on his ATV, Diana welcomed us at the villa, and the property management team was helpful and professional throughout.We highly recommend Odyssey Villa for anyone seeking a beautiful home, unforgettable views, and a touch of Costa Rican adventure."
