The best area to stay in Mothiana is the village centre, particularly around the main square, for its blend of traditional Cretan life and accessibility.

This area is the heart of Mothiana, offering a look at local life. You'll find traditional tavernas serving local dishes and small shops selling essentials. The main square is a natural gathering spot, often hosting local events or simply providing a place to relax with a coffee. It's a great base for those who appreciate a relaxed pace and a connection to local culture.

For couples seeking a quiet retreat, the outskirts of the village offer villas and guesthouses with stunning views of the surrounding olive groves and the White Mountains.

The best time to go to Mothiana, Crete, is during the shoulder seasons of May, early June, September, and early October.

These months offer pleasant weather with warm temperatures ideal for exploring the island's beaches and historical sites without the peak summer crowds. You'll find the sea warm enough for swimming, and the natural landscape is often at its most beautiful, with blooming wildflowers in spring and softer light in autumn.

For couples looking for a romantic getaway, these periods provide a more relaxed pace. You can enjoy quiet dinners at tavernas, stroll along less crowded beaches, and visit archaeological sites like the Palace of Knossos or the Samaria Gorge with fewer people. The milder weather makes activities like hiking or exploring charming villages more comfortable.

Families travelling with children will also appreciate the shoulder seasons. The temperatures are comfortable for little ones, and popular attractions are less busy, meaning shorter queues and a more enjoyable experience for everyone.
