We stayed at the Hotel Heliconia for two nights. It was definitely overpriced for what it was. The room was very basic, no TV, heat, or air conditioning. There was wood paneling everywhere. The most noticeable thing was the smell, which was a general dank scent. The beds were very old, the sheets and the bed cover seemed to have been ~50 years old and probably contributed to the smell. The pillows were lumpy and we found bugs in the bed.
The walls were paper thin and the windows didn't fully close. There were also no screens, so bugs could freely enter your room whenever they wanted. In fact, we found a live scorpion crawling up the shower curtain while taking a shower. We immediately packed up and left, leaving the scorpion in the bathroom. It might still be there now!
