Explore Transylvania, Land of Myths & Mountains

In the middle of the Carpathian mountains, on a dominant position in a private domain in a small village called Sirnea (6 kilometers from Dracula's castle in Bran), you can find our rustic mountain chalet. If you are looking for authenticity, unspoiled nature, local culture, peace and quiet and superb views in order to enjoy the company of friends and family, this is what you need. The chalet has 4 separate bedrooms and can easily accommodate 8-10 people. It has a fully equipped kitchen, 2 separate bathrooms, a large fireplace and a huge attic. The chalet is ideal for nature lovers, yoga and meditation practitioners, hikers and bikers and people who enjoy exploring the unspoiled nature and cultural heritage of Romania. The chalet is ideally situated for day walks in the Carpathian mountains and to visit the medieval cities of Transylvania.

Winter wonderland

The views from the cozy chalet and during the beautiful hikes were awesome. The chalet breaths the atmosphere of the surroundings and we loved being here every minute of our stay!

Perfect solitude; beautiful views

This is a spacious and very attractive house. It’s well equipped and the views from every angle across the hills and mountains are stunning. You will need a sturdy car as the road to the house from the village is unpaved and steep in places. It’s worth the effort to get there though!

WONDERFUL AND RELAXING

The House is beautiful and spacious and very well maintained. The owners family was very friendly and helpful. The day we arrived there had been an unexpected snowfall and the road to the house was impassible so they arranged for a horse cart to take our luggage food and us to the house. in Bran nearby there is a castle and several excellent restaurants (the Burg is EXCELLENT) I would highly recommend the house as a great place to get away and disconnect from the hustle and bustle of it all. My wife and I look forward to returning again in the near future !

Amazing Location off the beaten track

This house is increadible. It is a bit off the beaten track, and is about 10 minutes down a gravel road, and nearly 30 minutes into Bran, but it is definately worth the trip. The views of the mountains and Bran Valley from this house are increadible. The house was imaculate, and very well equiped. I would definately recommend this property to anybody who would like the solitude of staying out in the mountaind of Transylvania. The owner warns that it is not handicapped friendly, but I think it would not be a problem for most, as one can drive right up to the front door, and there are no big steps to overcome to get to the bedrooms, bathrooms, livingroom or dining room. If you are looking for a party location in town, this is not the place for you, but for relaxing in the "real" Romania, I would recommend this house without reservation.

Unique, charming and cosy

OK - This is really unique and charming, and probably not for everyone. It is definitely one of the best places we rented ever, mainly because of the charming location, amazing view and great design. This is a real mountain chalet, set in one of the most beautiful villages in Romania (check also Magura). The house is some 10-15 km from Bran, but it will take you 20 minutes to reach if from there, because after the winding road up to Fundata you turn to a so-called paved road down to Sirnea for about 2 km, and then another 2 km on unpaved road (it is easy after the first time). On the first day we arrived late in the evening (although we were specifically asked not to arrive after dark), and it was a litlle strange to go on those roads. But in the morning we woke up in heaven. It is so beautifull around, with views all around you to the mountains. The village is charming - a real poster setting, and the feeling that you are in a remote place is really unique. Although this place is best for people who don't want to travel a lot (if you want to be close to atractions maybe Bran is better), we did travel everyday, and the extra 20 road minutes were really worth it, and it was not a problem at all. The interior is exactly like in the pictures (maybe better) and the view is much better. We had a tiny heating issue - but it was quickly resolved when we mentioned it. A visit to tusa Felicia and Mr Galateanu at the house downhill - is a must, even if you don't want to buy eggs, milk and great cheese (but you should). They are very nice people (their 3 cows or their cat might visit you yard, as they did on our last day). If we will be in the area again (and we will probably be, because Romania is so beautiful), we will definitely want to stay again at Casa Konigstein. I think written instructions about how to arrive to the house, as well as how to use different apliances in the house (like the fireplace, oven, central heating etc.) could help. Probably one of the best rentals in Romania.

Winter Dream

A spacious and beautiful house perched just under a hilltop with 270° views across the snow-covered Carpathian mountains -- an enchanting place for our 12-member family to meet and spend Christmas. The remoteness was enhanced by a recent heavy winter storm having completely cut off vehicle access -- it was a 1 km walk over a hill from the nearest road. A bit of a slog on arrival trekking through the snow with luggage and young children, but relieved by local help with a horse-drawn sledge, ably organised by the ever-helpful owner, and on subsequent days the walk soon became a sheer pleasure. We found everyone we encountered friendly and helpful, driving local roads was no problem, and of course Bran Castle is not to be missed. Altogether a great holiday in a unique place and special thanks to the owner for advice and help with organising so much in advance, including booking Christmas dinner for us and putting up a Christmas tree. Definitely recommended!

Paradise in the Transylvanian countryside

If you are looking for a place to relax and enjoy the stunning mountains views in every direction this is the place. Everything about it is perfect and very clean. Our family spent a magical week hiking around the mountains and making meals in the well equipped kitchen. Make sure to meet the owners aunt and uncle who live below the house for an authentic Romanian experience. They are charming, make great cheese and like a living museum of rural culture. Give this place a try and you won't be sorry!

Team Building Weekend

The Villa has outstanding view across the valleys and mountains set high up on a hillside. It can be hard to find but the owner is happy to guide you in on a minor track for the last few 100 meters. There is 4 large bedrooms, 2 on each side of the Villa which share a bathroom each. The open planned living area and kitchen is also on the same ground floor level with a open fire and Balcony that has the great views. The upper floor has another living area in which has a TV and seating area with a toilet. The Ground floor has stairs to the basement which has access to a open area fenced in which is large area for camping or BBQ in which we also did. The area around the Villa is great for walking, Mountain Biking or just putting your feet up. We did trips to Bran Castle about a 20min drive and which has some good restaurants but make sure you bring all you need with you as it is a drive to collect things from the shop but if you want peace and quite it a price worth paying.

The end of the world

Casa Konigstein is a superb and comfortable chalet situated in the heart of Transylvania, one of the most beautiful and untouched regions of Europe. It is the perfect hide-away for nature lovers who like to hike, cycle or just enjoy the amazing 360° scenery. The chalet is well-equipped, very clean, beds are comfortable, nice fireplace. The owner has been very helpful. We'll go back, that's for sure!

Words fail to capture the magic of this place

It is not often that I have difficulties expressing myself. Weeks after leaving Sirnea the magic still endures and makes it hard to put into words the experience we have lived. It is somehow, just like the memory of that first love, the one that you’ll always remember, but you’ll never be able to explain the magic, to pinpoint what made it so special. The villa is well built and well appointed, with quality and comfortable furnishings that combine modern facilities and the cozy feeling of a much smaller place. The space is large and intimate at the same time: substantial enough for multiple activities, however giving the impression of a family atmosphere of relaxation around the fireplace. Guests may cook, watch TV, play board games, read, talk etc, in the same space at the same time without encumbering each other, and still feel together as a group. The bedrooms are well proportioned, positioned and furnished, and the two separate wings, with the attached bathrooms provide privacy when needed. TV, internet and mobile coverage, central heating, a well appointed kitchen, a barbecue, a substantial library and CD/DVD collection are available on the premises. Once you step outside though, it is where the magic begins in earnest. Two majestic mountain chains to the east and west border a region of lower peaks and rolling hills that is visible from the vantage point of the villa. The air smells differently, the sky is close and you start to discover the discrete sounds of nature. Villages, scattered houses, are far away, giving you the sensation of being remote, on top of the world, however near enough to be able to hear in the distance the sounds of cowbells filtering through the crisp air. If you feel like forgetting all about your daily routine, there will be no one to disturb your peace, with the exception maybe of a solitary shepherd and his herd grazing on the nearby hill. We suggest though you don a pair of hiking boots and discover the surrounding areas. You can take a serious hike, even for a few days, in the mountains and find accommodation in chalets or you may just stroll up and down the hills, along the streams and into the forests. If you wander in the surrounding villages you’ll find hospitable people who continue to live according to ancient customs and you shouldn’t leave without trying the local food. We were really well taken care of and we thank our gracious hosts. We long to let ourselves be engulfed by the magic of Sirnea once more.

A great house in a beautiful location

We spent a wonderful holiday in this excellent accommodation. The villa is very well presented and has everything you need for a very comfortable stay. Inside you'll find great interior decorations and attention to details. The outdoor areas are fantastic with a balcony offering stunning views over the Bucegi and Piatra Craiului mountains. The nature around invites you to trekking or biking amongst valleys, forests and mountains. A fantastic house in a beautiful location. We will definitely be back again.

Great house in romantic rural Romania

This is a wonderful house in a beautiful quiet part of Romania. From the house you have a magnificent view at the beautiful and mysterious mountains close by. The house is brandnew, big and very confortable and we spent a great week here, skying/ snowboarding at the resorts in the neighbourhood. The hills around the house are perfect for long hikes. We fell in love with Romania over 10 years ago (being form Amsterdam) and this part of the country and house combine everyting that make this country so enchanting to us.

A Fantastic Vaccation in a Fantastic Chalet

Our family spend three wonderful days in this brilliant Chalet. The surrounding is truely unique and the view from the house is stunning. The scenery you see looking out through the window is absolutely breath taking. The house it self is modern and very tastfully decorated. The only thing we regret was that we couldn't stay longer. I highly recomend renting this house. Andreas von Beckerath

An oasis of beauty in the Carpathian Mountains

I spent a wonderful christmas holiday (2 full weeks) at your chalet last year (2009). What makes the place quite unique is the combination of the unbelievable scenery outside, with the coziness of the mountain cottage inside. The views around are of the best i have seen in Romania (i live in the country since 1997 and i have seen many views...), and with its 4 bedrooms, it is the perfect place to relax with family or a group of friends. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a holiday close to nature, but with the luxury of modern living.

Peaceful holiday home in beautiful location

We retrurned to the UK at the weekend, having spent three weeks in Romania. We had a really great time! My children said that the holiday had been on equal footing with the holiday we had in Seattle and the state of Washington in the US two years ago, which they had described as their best holiday ever! So a great success all round. Of particular importance to us I think was the beautiful scenery and the very unspoilt rural areas we visited, combined with the fascinating history, the old towns and unchanged villages. We loved the traditional ways, and the fact that the countryside was managed more sustainably, with such a diversity of wildlife and plants. And village communities being that, and not just a group of people who come and go and who happen to live in adjacent houses as it would be in England and many western countries. I think we recognised that the country had great problems still and a great deal of poverty, and that there are big dilemmas with regards to the country's future development and how to preserve all the things that are so good, whilst also progressing economically. Your chalet was just perfect for us. You have arranged it so comfortably and it was a delight to be there. Its position is fantastic - and so, so peaceful. Spending the week there was just the right way for us to unwind for a week, relax and rest and start to emerge ourselves gently in a new country. We read, slept, walked, talked and ate - and left thoroughly relaxed. We were also very pleased to meet your aunt and uncle, and other family members, who despite our language difficulties, were so friendly and welcoming. I would thoroughly recommend you chalet to others, and will pass on information to those interested. We would like to thank Cristina for her help and kindness in welcoming us and helping to make our visit to your country so enjoyable
