"Short 10mins taxi ride from Kumamoto Train station, costs around 10USD for the taxi ride. Within walking distance to Kumamoto Castle, if walking is not your thing, you can take a taxi to the entrance of Josaien, which will lead you to the entrance of Kumamoto Castle as well. The taxi ride was around 5mins, and cost less than 6USD. It is also a short 10mins walk to Tsuruya Departmental Store, and plenty of cute shops in the nearby shopping arcade as well. Great location. "Great location, clean and tidy. No safe in the room! (Not sure how this would go down with travel insurance if you had items stolen. Unlikely in Japan, but not impossible) Shower over bathtub is not as good as many of the newer hotels walk in showers. It’s easy to get to on the tram from the train station, just be aware if it is any kind of holiday or festival, the tram will be rammed and you will have to wait a long time for it. Made worse if you have luggage. So get a taxi if that’s the case."
