Migriño is a quiet coastal village set between a wild sweep of coastline and the desert landscapes of Baja California Sur. Its beach attracts adventuresome tourists, who come to discover the natural scenery on guided ATV and horseback tours. The village’s main attraction is the long and largely deserted Migriño Beach. Navigate your way along the soft sand, over large dunes and in the shadow of tall canyons on a dune buggy or quad bike. Alternatively, splash in the seashore and feel the wind rushing over you while riding on horseback. Have your camera ready to snap memorable shots of unusual rock formations.
Desert wildlife inhabits the town and its surroundings. There’s a high chance you’ll see desert foxes and roadrunners. From January to March it’s possible to see grey whales cresting just a few hundred feet from the shoreline. This is the start of the whales’ 10,000-mile (16,093-kilometre) roundtrip migration between Mexico and the Arctic.
Surfers descend upon the beach when there is a big swell that can produce waves of up to 10 feet (3 metres). It is notably popular when the waves are small at the beaches of Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo. This is also a great spot for watching the sunset. Arrive late in the afternoon, find a quiet area on the beach and wait for the sun to drift down into the Pacific Ocean.
Migriño is a 30-minute drive from Cabo San Lucas and 40 minutes by car to San José del Cabo. There are no hotels, restaurants or amenities in the town. Arrange your ATV or horse riding tour on arrival or from your hotel. Most operators offer a pick-up and drop-off service from your accommodation.
