About this property
Family Friendly Home on 20 Acre Farm
Quail Gate is a wonderful place to relax and spend time with friends and loved ones. Nestled on the edge of a forest, our single story home has large windows, modern furniture, and decor inspired by farming, fungi and Northern California flora and fauna. It features an exceptional kitchen, 4-6 person hot tub, and sweeping views of the farm's orchard; pasture, and pond. Here you will find beautiful landscaping, play swings for children, walking paths, and more.
We honor this land's history and ancestral stewards by giving $40 of every night purchased to Mendocino's indigenous tribes and organizations. Children 2 and under = free.
Additional features include a south facing deck that overlooks fruit trees and a pasture beyond. An additional west facing deck offers a peaceful hot tub experience. The shared spaces include a library/entertainment room, dining room, and a central living lounge adjacent to the chef-worthy kitchen. Most of our beds were sourced from local Fort Bragg company FloBeds and are made from eco-friendly organic materials. Remote-control Hunter Douglas blinds provide extra privacy when desired. Drawers, light switches, etc. are labeled for guests to easily find what they are seeking. Amenities are abundant; we do diligence to provide all the essentials.
Guests are invited to explore and enjoy the orchard, pond, gardens and many walking paths throughout the property. With consideration to farm operations we ask that any active construction areas/outdoor work spaces are respected and left alone.
We ask that guests are mindful that the hosts (Megan and Cameron) and a long-term tenant live on site. The property is loved, shared and to be enjoyed by all. Private spaces include Megan and Cameron's cottage across the driveway, the toolshed, workshop, garages and the long term tenants small apartment (blue door). While it is physically connected to the rental house, the tenants apartment is a completely separate interior space. There are no shared interior spaces between the apartment and rental house. The wall that separates the apartment and our “bee room” with the twin beds is heavily insulated to mitigate sound transfer.
Megan & Cameron are actively working throughout the property on various farming projects. You will likely see them working in the pastures and orchard during the day. Our long-term tenant also will likely be present around the property and driveway.
The property has an emergency generator that will be available for limited hours in the event of power outages to accommodate guest needs: showers, charging, & food storage etc.
Caspar our hometown is a small rural town between Fort Bragg (11 minutes North) and Mendocino Town (15 minutes South). We are located at the end of a private road, offering privacy and shelter from traffic noise. Our western neighbor is Fortunate Farm who offers a seasonal farm stand with fresh local produce (5 min walk through our west pasture). To the east we have two residential neighbors. The town of Caspar (5 min drive; 15 min walk) is small and quiet. Caspar has a beautiful community center and pub house offering British fare and live music (highly recommended!).

We spent a wonderful Thanksgiving week with several families. The house is spacious and accommodated our group of nine very comfortably. In fact, it felt even larger then the pictures. There are so many windows that let in a ton of light and give great views of the beautiful surroundings. The location is just a short distance from Mendocino and Fort Bragg. The beaches are amazing and there are so many hiking trails close by. We loved our stay!
I am a person of few words. Hot tub in the redwoods. There. That is worth 5 stars alone. Add in an amazing huge kitchen, a gorgeous glass room surrounded by lush greenery and flowers and you have perfection.
Quail House, in the surrounding forest, and small farm activity provided a relaxing environment for our small family reunion. The rooms of the house are decorated with sculpture and paintings, and a bounty of books. The ocean is close (1 mile walk to a beach less traveled ), as are the towns of Mendocino and Fort Bragg. Communication with our host was kind, responsive and direct. We send our gratitude to Megan and the folks who work to keep this house, tend the chickens, and grow vegetables for markets.
There were six adults and an infant with us for the weekend at this wonderful house. It is located in the woods just minutes from the highway. A short drive to Mendocino and Fort Bragg. It is situated right between the two towns. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to cook at home. The only negative I can think of is that none of the bathrooms had body soap for the showers. Not a big deal at all because we just went and bought some at the store. This house has a great deck and a hot tub which we used nightly. I would highly recommend staying at this house.
Met our needs perfectly. We were three small families comprised of grandparents, adult children and grandchildren and a dog. When we were out seeing the sights, grandchildren said on several occasions they couldn't wait to get back to the house because they enjoyed being there. We do a little birding and we were able to do a short walk around a portion of the 20 acre property. We saw about 14 species of birds, including Band-tailed Pigeon, Warbling Vireo, California Quail, Swainson's Thrush and Wilson's Warbler. There is huge counter space in the kitchen that includes a large marble section for baking. Communication with the property manager was excellent via text. All living areas were quite large. Hardwood floors throughout. We used a little of the heating while we were there, and it worked very well. There were three zones that could be adjusted to different comfort levels if needed. Lots of decorations and artifacts related to mushroom collecting and travel to Africa. Two grocery stores, one each in Mendicino and Ft. Bragg, have everything you need for preparing meals.
Very comfortable. We are a family that loves to cook. Kitchen and accessories were great and complete. House is down a long dusty road. Great hikes and coast nearby. Good access to Mendocino and Fort Bragg. ’
Very spacious house with enormous chef’s kitchen! We had a great time cooking elaborate meals - with two families it was really more space than we needed.
We came for some chill family time ( to sibs and their adult kids / partners). We did a bit of mushroom hunting, a lot of cooking, played games at the big dining table and enjoyed the hot tub. Peaceful views of the farm helped ground us. We enjoyed the fresh eggs! Would definitely come back
Outstanding home and venue for a gathering, family or friends
This is a beautiful, charming, tasteful home full of character situated in nature - there is quiet and birds and beauty all around. It is also incredibly comfortable, well organized, and very very special. There is a wonderful library with wonderful books, windows, hot tub, a wonderful large deck contiguous with the living room and kitchen, and so much more. I can't recommend this home more highly.
This was our family’s second time staying at Quail Gate. Megan and Cam’s property is a little piece of paradise. The house is spacious and comfortable and perfectly accommodated our group of six adults and five young children. Each of the three families had plenty of personal space, each with their own bathroom. The kitchen is huge with everything we needed to prepare our family meals. The best part of it all, though, is the outdoor space. A large deck that can be closed off to contain little ones, and another big deck with hot tub large enough to hold most of us! The property has a sweet Pond, acreage with trees and meadows, and the children’s favorite attraction - the chickens! We saw quail, a fox, banana slugs, a bunny, a multitude of insects, birds and wildflowers, and all without leaving the property! Thank you, Megan for your help with a couple of things. As always, you were very helpful and kind.
we loved the property and only were frustrated with VRBO's lack of ability to receive questions. I'd also like to suggest to the owner, that a house hot water recirculation device, be installed so that the gallons of water wasted waiting for it to heat up, would not be wasted. But, all in all a great stay.
Amazing property. Beautiful views and morning walks. Our host was extremely friendly and accommodating to our numerous requests. Made the stay memorable and enjoyable.
This is a beautiful home out in the woods. The grounds are full of beautiful trees and flowers and so many birds. The home is spacious and beautifully decorated by some world travelers. Our group ranged in age from 12 years to 73 years and it was wonderful for each of us. We will visit again!
This property was perfect for our family of 10, which included we grandparents, our 2 adult children and their spouses, and 4 toddlers! Each family had plenty of room to stake out their personal space. The huge kitchen and living room are open to each other and were spacious and welcoming for our fun and games! The many windows and skylights in nearly every room allow you to take in nature's beauty from morning until evening. The grounds are stunning and peaceful and beyond what we had expected. Our hosts were gracious and warm and promptly took care of the few questions that came up. Their appreciation for the natural beauty which surrounds this home is evident in the decor and feel of the home. We look forward to a return visit and highly recommend this home for it's comfort and fully provided amenities, but also for the magical location and the wonderful hosts! Thank you Megan and Cam!
The property is a small working farm -- it was delightful to sit on the deck with a cup of coffee in the morning and hear the rooster crow in the distance. The home is very well supplied with small kitchen appliances and utensils, spices, laundry room with large clothes folding table. We are two retired couples and enjoyed having two master bedrooms, each with a walk-in shower and plenty of space. The mattresses on the queen beds are reaching the limits of their comfort zones and will soon need to be replaced but we managed to get good nights' sleep for the week of our stay. Communications with Megan were easy and very helpful - recommendations for hikes, interesting sites to see, best grocery shopping and restaurants. All four of us had a wonderful time and we all agreed it was among the best places we have stayed. We will be back again soon to visit the beautiful Mendocino coastline and relax at this most special home.
My friends and I stayed at Megan's beautiful home for one week in May. The house certainly exceeded our expectations - it's much larger than appears in the pictures - all room sizes are very generous. The bedding was superb as we all experienced restful sleeps.
The kitchen is furnished with everything you could possibly need to cook and entertain.
The house is surrounded by beautiful foliage and trees and we really enjoyed the fact that the flowers and shrubs were in bloom.
The outside covered deck is large and includes a gas grill. Wonderful place to enjoy the scenery. Also includes a hot tub.
The house is filled with interesting art and artifacts - somewhat unusual for a vacation rental.
We look forward to returning to this very beautiful and comfortable home in the future.
This home is a warm and inviting. Plenty of room and a giant kitchen. Every drawer and light switch is labeled and that made a big difference in a large home. The house is full of windows to let the outside in. I can't wait to come back.
This was just what we were looking for as our first vacation away from home in a long while. Taking a little break before school starts we headed to the Fort Bragg area which is a nice quiet coastal area and perfect for what we needed. But the house was even more comfortable for us. It was so restful nestled in the forest with areas for the whole family to make their testing spots. Our son loved the animals on the grounds and had a ton of fun exploring. Everything was was we thought it could be and more! Thank you!
Lovely nature with wine tasting and art, hiking, botanical gardens, gourmet food and fun. Just perfect in great house near beaches and lovely historic town. Home was beautiful and well equipped in lovely redwood forest with great decks and hot tub and large kitchen.
This property is so beautiful and perfect GM for a family or friends weekend. Hopefully next time we visit we can be there for mushroom season. We took advantage of the great restaurants in Mendo, took walks down to the beaches. It was just awesome
