Respite found wanting
The cottage is set on a cliff top behind a gun emplacement at the rear of Portsea Camp and only has spectacular views from the viewing area above this emplacement and not from the cottage itself. The property wasn’t ready when we arrived at 2pm. The beds hadn’t been stripped and remade. The property has a carpark at the front which fills as locals head to the beach every day, traipsing across the Portsea Camp grounds. The camp goers are loud and intrusive and the maintenance people retrieve ride on mowers and other equipment from the bunker at the back of the camp, where you’re staying. We even had a maintenance man ask to clean some of the gutters on the cottage and the noise from the compressor was too much for my special needs daughter. We ended up leaving a day early. This property is not the incredible private spot I was lead to believe. The plus side is that the beach is lovely and close.

Whilst we thank Carolyn for her review and feel sad she felt the need to depart early, the review is inconsistent with the communications we had with Carolyn both during and after her stay, and unfortunately contains a few inaccuracies. Firstly, we’ve never purported there are views from the cottage itself - if this was a feature, significantly higher pricing would reflect that. These aspects are clearly described in the property’s advertising and also demonstrated in the photos and aerial shots. The cottage is located within fully fenced surrounds; the public car park at the back (not front) is separated by a 7 foot fence. Portsea Camp which is adjacent, and which is the beneficiary of profits from all stays at the cottage, is a charity which hosts events for underprivileged children (which is also mentioned in the property’s advertising). Obviously we cannot control the noise in any neighbouring property that we do not manage, but it should be noted such issues are not reflective of the reviews left by many other guests who have enjoyed their stay at this spectacular property. Maintenance do not retrieve mowers or any equipment from within the cottage’s fenced perimeter, this is also adjacent. Unfortunately there was a delay at the laundry on the day of Carolyn’s arrival but we did text her to let her know the beds would be made shortly after 2pm. There was also a miscommunication between the Camp and their gutter cleaner, who should not have asked to clean the gutters, but a simple decline would have been totally understandable. We sincerely hope this review does not deter future guests from booking such a spectacular and unique property which supports such a fabulous charitable cause!!

Great spot
We had a lovely time up on the cliff. So peaceful and well located. Good walks, nice simple beach spot. It felt a bit like being a famous five novel. Great views from the top of the cliff.

Amazing location on cliff top
Amazing location on a historic cliff top in Portsea. Make sure you take the hidden walking trail to a secret fishing cove.

Portsea Cottage Getaway
Cozy little getaway for adult couple and no doubt 2-3 children if you have them. Also pet friendly, which our little dog absolutely loved. No bells or whistles but great location and just perfect for what we needed which was a quite and relaxed retreat.

Stroll along the beach, in either direction.
Peaceful. The private seating near the edge of the cliff gives you a stunning view of the bay!

Clifftop cottage next door to camp
We loved the place but when we arrived we realised we were right next to Portsea camp for kids. We wanted to holiday somewhere quiet. It would have been nice to have been for warned that there would be noise coming from the camp if it is school holidays. We found a hash pipe in a pot plant and we would have liked an axe to split some logs for the fire. Otherwise we loved it.

It would have been nice if Catherine raised these issues with us before posting a public review. The firewood has been split already, but we could have delivered an axe. The property is clearly advertised with drone photography to show its location, and additionally in the opening paragraph of its advertising it notes that "All profits from stays at this property go to Portsea Camp, who support disadvantaged and special needs children and their families." - a fabulous cause which should not be overlooked by this tactless review.

Incredible!
This little cottage was breath taking, everything was perfect! It had everything we needed and more from a fully equipped kitchen to picnic blankets. The house was super clean and in immaculate condition. AND we paddle boarded with dolphins…it doesn’t get much better than that ;)
