Mazatlán Historic Centre – Culture, History, and Charm at Every Turn

Mazatlán’s Historic Centre, also known as “Old Mazatlán,” is one of the city’s most iconic and vibrant areas. Its restored colonial architecture, cobblestone streets, and bohemian atmosphere make it a must-see destination for both tourists and locals.

Ideal for:
Strolling at a leisurely pace, enjoying al fresco dining, discovering local history, or simply immersing yourself in the charm of authentic Mazatlán.

🚶‍♂️ On Foot
The best way to explore the Historic Centre is on foot. The streets are narrow, cobblestone, and full of life.

Everything is close by: Plazuela Machado, the Ángela Peralta Theatre, restaurants, cafes, museums, and the Malecón (boardwalk) are all just a short walk away.

🛺 Pulmonías (Mazatlán’s Typical Vehicle)
These are like open-sided golf carts—very popular and iconic. They’re ideal for short trips within the city centre or strolls along the boardwalk. They don’t have a fixed fare, so negotiate the price before getting in (ask the price when you board or agree on it with the driver).

🚕 Taxis and Ride-Hailing Apps
Traditional taxis are available in the area. Uber and DiDi operate in Mazatlán and can be cheaper than a taxi or a pulmonía (open-air taxi) for longer distances.

🚲 Bicycles or Scooters
There are areas along the boardwalk where you can rent bicycles or electric scooters.
You can use them to explore the boardwalk or travel longer distances comfortably.

🚌 Public Transport
There are city buses that connect the city centre with other areas of Mazatlán (such as the Golden Zone or the Aquarium), although they can be confusing for tourists.

They are an economical option, but not very convenient if you don’t know the routes well.
