Nice. No complaints

Nice place, pleasant people. Food was good, car park is about 100 yards up the road which is really steep! One space for each room though so can always get parked even if it is a bit tight. Room was big and comfortable. Only thing I would offer as a bit of constructive criticism is that the breakfast room needed some music. It was too quiet which makes for an awkward silence when there’s several tables.

It was our 19th wedding anniversary and a last minute booking. I couldn’t fault the hosts despite their upset with renovations not complete before our arrival. This was no fault of their own. The room was perfect. Very clean and the attention to detail was greatly received . The period features that was so fitting to a period property was very well presented.

Friendly, comfortable and well presented

The room was well presented and very spacious. This room is on the top floor but the climb is worth it and keeps your daily step count up. The breakfast service was excellent and the staff helpful and attentive.

The hotel is full of character. The room “Calke” was small but absolutely perfect for us. Being at the back of the property it was very quiet even on a Bank Holiday Sunday. Breakfast was excellent, with loads of choices. Amelia, the receptionist/manager was delightful, helpful and cheerful in every way. In fact all the staff were wonderful. We’d absolutely return.

Friendly staff on check in bar and restaurant closed but plenty of places near by. Only issue. Front Door locked and as wanted to leave very early no one on site to help eventually found a way out via upstairs fire exit

A step back in time

Had a two night stay in this fantastic hotel as soon as we walked through it was like being in the 1920,s. We were welcomed a lovely lady on check in who told us all we needed to know. I took a climb up iron steps to a cliff top garden and the view was amazing. The interior decor is so museum like but at the same time homely. The heating came home at the right times so we never felt cold. The different types of breakfasts we had both mornings were faultless and served by attentive and friendly staff. The hotel itself is situated ideally for the shops cafes and not forgetting the Arcades. I recomend this place to anybody who wants a quiet break. We are already planning our return in a few months time. Thankyou to all the staff of The Hodgkinsons hotel.

Loved the old building, our room, the friendly helpfulness of the staff..Also, the convenience of the location. A little disappointed that TV in room didn't work despite our re-tuning. It seemed to be an aerial problem. Additionally one of bedside lights wouldn't come on. These are not complaints just observations so that they can be put right for next room occupant. We did report them at the end of our stay.

Nice old fashioned hotel, but dont get there early

Room lovely. Bin in bathroom had something on the top of it so didnt use it as hadnt been cleaned. Lovely drinks assortment in room. Cafe was closed in hotel thought didnt know until after arrived and couldnt use back garden as per advertised online as they said overgrown. Had to wait outside until check in time passed with other disgruntled guests. Lovely breakfast though, but was (5 mins) early for allocated first time slot booked

This Grade 2 hotel, is an excellent example of how to do things right. Even lack of staff did not stop the owner from providing an excellent service. Would recommend anytime and will definitely stop again sometime.
