Jnane Tamsna disappointed; moreso because it had come highly recommended by a friend. We booked for three nights to celebrate a 40th birthday. I had contacted the reservations and events coordinator a month prior to travelling to book activities offered through the hotel: a bicycle tour and a sidecar tour. On arrival it appeared that neither had been booked or organised. The time requested for the sidecar tour was not available. Moreover, prices quoted in the correspondence had risen significantly (an increase of 500MAD/50 euros in the case of the sidecar tour). The price of the bicycle tour, and taxi transfers also seemed to have increased in price since booking. Raising these issues with the owner and manager, and arranging alternative plans, resulted in unnecessary stress and uncertainty that marred a significant proportion of a short trip. As it was low-season we were offered a room upgrade on arrival. We were reminded of this upgrade, and a bottle of wine provided with dinner, a number of times. These reminders negated both the attempt at an apology, and the goodwill. Ultimately, I would have much preferred to enjoy the activities booked, and less vexation, than a room upgrade and a bottle of wine.

A place that tries but doesn’t try hard enough. We were generally disappointed with jnane tamsna. We have been to Marrakesh before and for similar prices stayed in better riads or hotels. Overall this place is way too remote and far and doesn’t live up to the expectation of a luxury boutique hotel. The quality of the premises and rooms is inconsistent (the main block rooms are tired when compared to the garden rooms, which are newer and prettier), it generally lacks in upkeep and it’s overall wanting in attention to detail (cracks in the walls, poor painting of rooms, dry old wood furniture and doors in bad need of treatment). The overall impression you get on arrival, and that stays with you till the end of the visit, is one of a shabby and worn out guesthouse. We lacked water twice over 4 days and hot water took ages to flow. Among the positives are the three pools which are generally pretty, pleasant and well kept. My only pet peeve is that they open them to external visitors that come for lunch or a massage. As a result, one day the pool was completely overcrowded. When we used a second, apparently private one we were told off in an abrupt way. The gardens are a mixed bag, featuring a host of plants but generally arid. The food at the restaurant is healthy but generally not up to hotel standard. Staff are friendly but it took 15-20 mins to get a drink if you were lucky enough to ind any of the elusive staff . I like to visit the business of the city and reside in peacefulness. The gardens and decor are very relaxing and beautiful. The staff is very accommodating and can find any services you want. The the set menu is delicious and freshly grown on property
