We love this Chateau! This was our second time staying the Chateau de Marcay and would recommend room 21. The staff is the best! From Claire, Alexander, Samuel, Constantine to the best chef, Romain. I am sure I left out someone but everyone is the best!!! The food is second to none. Chef Romain's creations are a must to try each night. Awesome wine list too!!! This Chateau is located in a small quaint and very quiet town. Great place to have morning runs from too.

A charmed life.
Great respite from hustle and bustle of Europe's big cities. Location, close to Chinnon is great. Staff was friendly and the chateau is charming. Like most of France, the rooms can get a bit warm during a heat wave and internet was a bit intermittent but my wife and I overall loved our stay.

Wonderful old Chateau in pristine condition with excellent and friendly staff. The dinner service was terribly slow caused by the kitchen not the waiting staff and the food portions were too small.

An Amazing Chateau!
An amazing property! The staff was very friendly and the service was excellent. How can you not enjoy staying in a chateau/castle? Our room was very large with a separate living area. One window looked out the front of the Chateau, another window looked out of the back of the Chateau. We also ate dinner there and our meal and the restaurant service were both excellent. During our trip we stayed in a number of chateaus and this was the best. The only thing I saw that could be improved was that the restaurant and breakfast area chairs were stained and the covers should be replaced. Other than that, one of the best hotel stays I have ever experienced.

Fabulous
Had a wonderful stay. After 8 nights of camping on an airbed it was amazing to experience a couple of days of comfort and luxury. Staff were very helpful and friendly and the kids loved the pool, playing in it for hours on end. Experienced a fabulous meal - we went for the tasting menu and it was absolutely amazing. The only slight criticism is that although the hotel classes itself as kid friendly, you did get the feeling that you had to keep the children quiet due to the serene surroundings and we spent alot of time worrying if our children were being too noisy and disturbing other guests. On our first night we ate at the hotel outside on the terrace and although there was a children's choice it didn't arrive until half way through our tasting menu and by that time the kids were understandably hungry and whingeing. Once they'd had their meal they wanted to have a run round the grounds and it was probably a mistake to let them because we were asked to keep the noise down. We felt really bad and ended up giving the children dessert in their room. Moral of the story, don't eat dinner in the hotel with children or go into Chinon! I'm not sure if it is possible but maybe have a less formal eating area where parents don't have to worry so much about disturbing others. Or give them their meal at the start and then they can go back to their room. Anyway, we still had a wonderful stay and we would love to return - maybe for a romantic getaway without children next time!

Charming hotel, somewhat isolated, which we liked.
Staff most accommodating. Quiet bar area for per-dinner beverages. Dinner was extraordinarily good. Dinner staff offered impeccable service. We did miss the morning coffee and croissant. We do not do full breakfast, which I believe was the only choice, Totally would recommend this hotel to our friends.

Gorgeous hotel in a beautiful, peaceful setting.
Excellent service from the staff and a very comfortable, spacious room and bathroom within the chateau. The Pavillion rooms are less grandiose but still quite stylish and well equipped. Luckily, our room had two very large windows which we had to keep open all night as it was so hot. It was almost like sleeping under the stars which actually was quite lovely. The hotel also provided us with a fan which we had to run all night, so we did sleep therefore managed the lack of air con issue. Are we all spoilt these days and expect it at that level? The building is listed preventing them from installing it. The evening meal was excellent and although pricey, well recommend to try. The setting is also rather splendid - on the terrace when weather permits. A few hours in the sun by the pool with the chateau as a backdrop was a very pleasant experience! If I had some advice for the hotel, it would be a nice touch to offer better quality toiletries and complimentary towelling slippers for the price level they want to market themselves. However, it didn't detract from our stay. We would visit again but not in the height of a hot summer.

Beautiful setting in the Loire Valley
At arrival we were not happy at all as we were given two inferior rooms in the Annex. Upon complainig at the Reception, we were given two better rooms, but not what we expected. It was only at the next day that we were placed in two excellent rooms at the Chateaux. We should recognise that Management was extremely helpful and cooperative. Having explained the above, Chateau Marcay i a first rate hotel in every sense of the word.

Shabby Chic Chateau - An Oxymoron?
My wife and I loved our 5-night stay at this beautiful chateau located a short drive from Chinon centre. The chateau and staff have a relaxed, informal feel which is really remarkable given the surroundings. We speak of chabby chic as a wonderful combination of relaxed and chic combined. Somehow this chateau does just that! Our room was a bit dated (carpet had a few stains and some wear and tear) but oddly that added to the wonderful feel of a place lived in, not an artifact from the middle ages. Our room was not in the chateau proper (by design) but in the adjoining wing of rooms (once the stables, I believe) that have outside patios which are very private and allowed us to read, relax and drink wine in a private setting. We could also access the pool and grounds easily from the patio area. We dined twice at the chateau. Highly, highly recommended (the sweetbreads and risotto were outstanding). We also spent each afternoon at the pool after sightseeing/wine tripping. The pool is fabulous and one can order food/drink there if desired. Finally, the staff are really quite wonderful. Friendly, gracious and welcoming, and receptive to our requests. They should be commended!

Pure Awesomeness!
We truly enjoyed our stat at the Marcay. The place provides an unbelievable atmosphere that it's hard to match by other places. The closest town is Chino, and unfortunately food choices are limited when it comes to restaurants. But, the relaxation and enjoyment we had was worth the limited amount of places to eat. Cable was also limited and the tv wasn't at its best. I still think the place is awesome and would recommend it to anyone looking to relax and disconnect a few days from the stress of the world.

Felt Like a Queen
A little tricky to find Marçay and the chateau, but once you realize that the grounds of the hotel are part of the original plot of land which made up the entire village, you understand and keep looking for the highest building. We arrived down a road with over-hanging trees...horses on one side and vineyard on the other. Through a stone archway and there is the chateau with circular drive and gorgeous plantings of hydrangeas. We parked and entered the wide doorway to the reception desk and Sabrina. We registered, had a wonderful, young man carry our bags to our room, and found a large room, immaculate bedding, windows overlooking the pool and the beautiful fields and village in the distance. The bath was amazing, but our room had a tub and no shower. Fine for us, but someone else might want to request a room with shower. We returned to the reception area and was told the restaurant was closed on Tuesdays, so Sabrina gave us a map and recommendations in Chinon. Chinon has many fine restaurants, wonderful shopping, and friendly people. Our stay at the Hotel Chateau Marçay was totally delightful and highly recommended.

Lovely Loire Valley Chateau hotel
We stayed at Chateau Marcay because it is close to Chinon. Our visit to the area was to taste the wines of Chinon, wines from the surrounding area, and visit the Loire Valley chateau's. The hotel was built in the 1500's and has been remodeled numerous times. The grounds are wonderful. It is very peaceful. The hotel has a pool, but warmer weather is needed to use. They also have riding stables and horses. The service was terrific. The staff could not have been any nicer. The breakfast is very nice, however the fee was 24 euros. There are no alternative breakfast choices except to drive into Chinon. The restaurant is formal and is wonderful. We toured the chateau wine cellar and tasted their wines. The sommelier Julian is very knowledgeable and we enjoyed his tour, tasting and assistance during dinner. We would definitely stay there again.

My second time at Château de Marçay after the first one almost 20 years ago. It's still lovely, with beautiful property right next to the tiny town of Marçay, just outside of Chinon in the Loire. Staff is excellent and helpful, the setting serene, the rooms lovely, and the views fantastic. The only thing that was odd was the lack of shower in the room. Whilst the hand-held spray head more-or-less worked, it was awkward for those preferring to have a shower as opposed to take a bath.

This Hotel is a little tired and over rated.
The hotel is set in a pleasant, albeit remote location and has overall good facilities and grounds. The building is a partly modernized chateau. However, renovations were some time ago and the rooms and common areas are looking worn and dated. Our bedroom and bathroom were both large and the bed was very comfortable. Furnishings were very sparse considering the size of room. There is no A/C in the old part of the hotel nor in the chateau bedrooms. We were very fortunate to visit during bad weather otherwise the bedroom and dining room would have been like a furnace. The dining room serves good food from set menus and a small a la carte menu. Wine selection is also good. We were disappointed that the maitre d' would not allow substitutions between set menus which is now the norm in similar hotels and restaurants. We ate in the dining room two of three nights and enjoyed the food but not the stifling heat. We chose to eat somewhere more comfortable our last night. Breakfast was not included in the room rate and was an astonishing euros 48.00 for two people for a very typical French breakfast. We have no plans to return.

Beautiful Chateau on the edge of the Loire Vallewy
The chateau was a delight with friendly staff and very professional restaurant service. Everyone from the Maitre d' to the waiters knew their stuff and were very helpful. The Somellier in particular was very knowledgeable about local wines, his recommendations are well worth listening to. The whole experience was a pleasure.

Wonderful hotel beyond my expectations
Stayed with my girlfriend in the annex of the hotel. The Chateau is beautiful and the service received during my 4 night stay was absolutely top notch. Stephanie and her staff certainly know how to treat their guests well. Large room with plenty of character and a terrace with the most wonderful view of the countryside. Good quality WiFi. Excellent dinner at a very reasonable price for the quality of food dished up with Michelin star service. I would happily stay again in the not too distant future.

Magnificent & luxurious.
Took a trip to the Loire Valley & stayed at this marvelous chateau. The chateau is a very old castle with great European style. Our dinner there was second to none & the service was perfect. It is a bit off the beaten path but is a true jewel in the Frnch countryside. It does not have A/C so the rooms might be warm during the summer but the windows open to the outside for cooling. Definitely recommend staying here.

A Chateau hotel with style
The Hotel and staff were superb although we were disappointed when we arrived as we were told that the restaurant was not open that evening. If booking this hotel check if the restaurant is open! We therefore had to drive back to Chinon to find a restaurant for an evening meal. The following evening we did enjoy the restaurant facilities. This is not inexpensive but the menu was fantastic. We trusted in the Sommelier to chose our wines, which he did extremely well and he did not chose expensive ones. On the down side, although the superior room was extremely good, there were no tea or coffee making facilities, which we were expecting, paying that sort of money. Also the toilet paper was cheap quality, not as expected. The above two little moans did not spoil our stay.

A quality Hotel, excellent for exploring the Region
It was very hot weather and the room in the annex, although to a high standard was like an oven Day and night. .Air conditioning is needed in this type of weather. The menu was to a high gourmet level but quite expensive. Also the menu was somewhat limited in its offerings. It was not a question of money but we could not eat there every night because of the lack of variety. Something more simple from time to time in Chinon was a treat. We ( my wife and I ) had two meals at the Chateau which cost almost as much as the 4 night stay. Staff were great. Always helpful. We enjoyed our time here.

"posh" hotel for a special time in the Loire
The chateau de Marcay looks so impressive as you approach it and the immediate impression is of luxury and prestige. We were welcomed superbly and shown our room in the annex by the friendly staff. The bar is equally friendly and comfortable.... the rooms are large and well-appointed. Sadly the weather was not good enough for us to use the pool much or the tennis courts etc. We did eat in the restaurant though and we were a little disappointed. It was very expensive and the food was overly complex and lacked a clarity of taste. We much preferred some of the local restaurants and so only went the chateau's once. We also thought that the breakfast was extremely expensive, backed up by other guests. We saved our selves nearly 200 euros by taking our breakfast in Chinon. If you only have yoghurt, fruit ad croissant then you will make a big saving. However we are glad we went but just wish there were better priced food options available

The room was good but there was no shower and there was no hot water. With regards to the restaurant, excellent menu, wine list and the staff. But the starter and main course were tasteless, the desert was full of flavour. The breakfast, there was a good choice, but at €22 per person, this was expensive. Overall, a well maintained property, nice surroundings, but was let down by points raised.

Great setting, but could do better
We were slightly concerned upon arrival that our booking could not be found. Given this was Easter break and many other hotels were full, we were concerned what might happen. It turned out to be a case of getting first and last names mixed up. However, a few things bothered us, which cumulatively meant our stay wasn't all we'd hoped for. The room smelled musty - perhaps that was the age of the building. The pool, which claimed to be heated, wasn't. The wifi was non existent in our room, and when we asked after it, we were told to try the common areas. Still no wifi. And the formal dinner was very formal, but the food wasn't up to scratch! If they could fix all these things though, it would be a magnificent place.

Breath Taking-A step back in time
We stayed at this hotel on route to my father-in-laws where we were expected Christmas morning. The staff was great and genuinely helpful. We had a fantastic Christmas eve dinner and I thank them deeply for accommodating us without reservations. They noticed our 5 year old and suggested we upgrade to the room in the tower which was more spacious. The view from the tower was amazing and oversaw endless fields. The room was clean and comfortable with the exception of the tub. The bathroom was enormous and comfortable for newlyweds or couples celebrating a special occasion. Cons: Plan for the elevator. It can only accommodate one passenger and one luggage at at time, or do as we did, send the luggage to your floor and have someone wait for it at its destination. Con 2; We had an enormous bathroom but no shower. We simply did not have enough time for a bath so we had to squad in the tub and use the shower head to cleanse our bodies, like little children. For the amount of money it cost to stay one would expect to have the simplicity and convenience of a shower. In spite, I look forwards to making another stop here in the near future. I would definitely go back.

Great Place to Stay and Wonderful Location
Location, staff, Restaurant all superb but let down by quality of Superior Room. At 265 Eu Per Night it was a bit of a disappointment. That being said the quality of service and cuisine in the restaurant was outstanding. The Restaurant staff on duty that night which was Wednesday 24th July were superb and I should mention that because the Restaurant Manager deemed it right for whatever reason, to visibly give them a hard time. Not my business, but when my children pick up on it, professionalism has to be called into question. However, my opinion is that the Restaurant staff without question worked very hard and were very courteous and respectful. A job well done!
