This is nice place to stay. It’s clean and quiet. However please get new mattresses that are actually comfortable. And offer real blankets instead of sheet thin tiny blankets. Also the pillows are extremely flat and worn out. Bedding in general please update. Other than that house keeping is really good and it’s a cool place to stay.

Hostel was clean and comfortable. Check-in was a bit odd; your key and info are in an envelope on a bulletin board. Small common area but a large kitchen. Overall, if you're trying to save a buck to spend later up at Mammoth Mountain, this spot is hard to beat. Lots of parking right out front, easy walk to a brewery.

I've stayed here a couple of times now and the cleanliness is questionable. The blankets, shams, pillows, and comforter are not washed after every guest, they smelled. Clean towels are provided and you see the difference how there are washed. Aside from this the hostel is conveniently located.

I liked that it was quiet, but that was probably due to that it wasn't high peak season and there weren't that many people staying there. It's an older place, but I didn't have any issues with the place, and I didn't need to speak to anyone about services. The bathroom rugs need to be replaced; they were discolored, and one of them was a towel, not a rug. I also liked that there are many places where you can walk to, such as restaurants and shops. Also, the town has one of the best skate parks I have ever visited. I was never told about amenities, and I noticed that there was a jacuzzi there, which I later found out was available for guests, but I was already leaving when I found out.

We booked a queens bee for 2bed. We just needed a place to sleep after a drive. Overall good. Room was clean. There were bedsheets and couple of towels. Shared bathroom was clean. Kitchen was smelling because someone might have just heated their food. Overall good if you just need a place to crash.

Hostel stay

Check in time was an hour after the time noted in the email which had stated 2 pm. Apart from that all was good. We had a two person room with one queen bed. Bed was very comfortable as were the pillows. Shared bathroom was clean and the shower was good and water hot. Unusual bathroom layout with two toilets in shared space with no individual doors, but one could lock the outer door if needed. Convenient location and it was quiet the night we stayed. I would stay here again.

I’ve stayed here twice this season. A few things I would adjust. All the pillows are like an inch thick I think they should throw all of them away and get real pillows. Also they give you very thin blankets and it’s cold in the rooms. So I had to aft for a comforter and luckily they had one. As far as nice staff they deff are very nice. Also I would recommend painting the walls a new color. Gray or sage Greg, antique white something modern. The yellow walls makes this place feel very old and dated. It’s deff needs some love but the price is perfect.

The price is good for a bunk bed. Kitchen is nice but no cooking allowed. Car entry has poor signage. Check in office is shared with Holiday Haus -- confusing. Room for improvements: Men's restroom is small, with 2 toilets and 2 showers. Restroom is locked out if one person decides to lock it while using. Bath mats are soaking wet constantly -- disgusting to walk on with bare feet, so bring shower shoes. There is a TV room. Other than that, there is no living room you can relax in. Wifi is very slow -- can't send a small attachment in an email or text. Better just use cell connection. Quests are generally respectful of others, but ski equipment can take up a whole lot of space in the bedroom and there are nothing other than the floor for everyone's stuff -- like a mine field when there are 4 people sleeping in the room. Common area furniture are all very well used.

Not a good hostle. Common areas were tiny and claustrophobic. The place itself was not easy to find. The woman at the front desk was very nice, but was unable to give me a refund when I decided not to stay 10 minutes after checking in. I ate the lost money and went down the road to Hostel California in Bishop. Which was wonderful. I recommend going there instead. I was so unhappy with hostel moderne and not being able to get a refund it has turned me off to booking places ahead.

It’s a hostel. It’s relatively inexpensive. Lots of random strangers sleeping in a room and using bathrooms. No surprise. Noisy. Perhaps soft closers on doors would help. Low sitting parking lot gets icy in winter.
